Superior Alternative to Ever Clean?

Sorry to post yet another cat litter-related question, but this is very specifically aimed at people who have used Ever Clean cat litter. I have tried a few other litters -- including silica crystal, Swheat Scoop, and another corn-based litter whose name escapes me now -- but have kept going back to Ever Clean because it has been a lot better in terms of odor control and clumping. However, I'm wondering if there are more effective products out there. We have added a few more cats to the household in the past several years, so odor has become a problem.

I know that just about every cat litter out there has its champions, but I'm hoping to get recommendations specifically from those who have used Ever Clean but found something more effective -- or, alternatively, from those who have tried some other brands and ended up back with Ever Clean! Thanks for any advice.

Oh, I forgot to note that the alternative I'm currently researching is Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra -- I am especially interested to hear any comparisons between Ever Clean and Precious Cat.

I have never used Ever Clean, but have been using Precious Cat for a couple years now. I have no odor issues, and it clumps very well. I also like the fact that it is low-dust (I have asthma and other upper respiratory issues that can disable me, actually) and also non-fragrant.

I scoop once a day at a minimum, mostly twice a day. I also found that once I upgraded my cat's diet that really cut down on the odor.

It is actually the dust that is bothering me about Ever Clean (in addition to the scent -- even though it is "unscented" it has a pronounced perfume that I find off-putting). I have to wear a heavy-duty dust mask when I clean the litter boxes, and putting in new litter results in a Kansas-grade dust cloud! The odor control with Ever Clean is fantastic, but the dust level is just too much for me.

I bought some Precious Cat today -- hopefully it will give me the benefits of EC but without so much dust.

Hope the Precious Cat works for you. I HATE dust too, like I mentioned earlier. The reason I mentioned diet is my earlier post is because I -think- Precious Cat is good with odor, but I'm not sure since I feed a higher quality diet. But for most people I heard Precious Cat is great with odor, I just can't judge.

Precious Cat hasn't given me any wheezing - and I have a litter box in my bed room. Other things will make me wheeze but not the litter box (anymore.)

I use Dr. Elsey's Ultra and like it very much.  I have also used Ever Clean, and also like that as well.

I think that Ever Clean is maybe a little bit better than Dr. Elsey's, but since I have 5 cats, and often foster and have had as many as 20 at a time (although that is rare), I stay with Dr. Elsey's because it is also much less expensive.

I buy it at chewy.com, since orders over $49 have free shipping, they include food and litter in that (which most don't) and my orders from them always come the next business day.

For the same $15 I get 40 lbs. of Dr. Elsey's as opposed to 25 lbs. of Ever Clean  (although occasionally the Dr. Elsey's has gone up to about $18 but it's still a better deal).

However, I have also found a way to enhance Dr. Elsey's.  I add a little Tidy Cat Litter Deodorizer to the litter.  (I don't like Tidy Cat Litter but their canister of litter deodorizer is quite good).   I also find that if I mix a 40 lb. bag of Dr. Elsey's with a small box of Scoop Away it works even better, less dust, and clumps even a little better.  I don't know why, but for me the Dr. Elsey's mixed with the Scoop Away and Tidy Cat deodorizer seems to work wonders, go figure.

All I know is with all the cats I might have at one time here, people are always commenting how surprised they are to not smell cats in my house.  I've had people say they were surprised to discover I even have cats.

So I'm happy.

PS:  I do scoop once a day, every day, and sprinkle a little fresh litter on top after I do.  I also try to make sure there is enough litter in the boxes so that it won't stick to the bottom of the box and break up when I try to scoop it.

I used to use Everclean, the one that came in the 42 lb cube. It was great but the dust was too much. Also, very expensive. $25 for that cube. I now use Dr. Elsey's ($18 for 40lb) with Tidy Cat mixed in (about 75% Elsey's 25 % Tidy). I find that it has no dust and clumps very well and superior odor control. I also scoop once or twice a day because I have three cats. I sprinkle a little bit of new litter over top after I scoop. I also put enough in so that it's pretty deep so the urine doesn't sink to the bottom. Most people complain that Elsey's makes the clumps TOO hard, but I'd rather that then clumps falling apart.

Have you tried any of the Oko litters?  I used to use Everclean and have switched.
