I feel like I should bring him to the shelter's clinic since they have extensive history of him and knew him rather well. Also loyalty - plus I know some of the staff at the clinic.
At the same time, there is a vet 5 minutes from my place whose director is a holistic practitioner. I've heard only good things about them, and I feel like she would understand my decision to feed raw (instead of blaming everything on that).
