Kaylee got spayed Friday (as most of you might know). Well when I came home from work she was laying on her back, and the area around her sutures was swollen I guess? More like a lump than anything. Its not hard on one side, and sort of hard on the other. She is still eating, drinking, playing, and she is not favoring the area at all. All bathroom breaks have been normal. Emergency vet said it was normal but I dont know? I know I'll call my vet in the morning, but I thought I'd ask you guys. I've never seen this before in any of the females I had spayed.

How is it today.  Was it just swollen, or what?  It kind of looks like they pinched her together to stitch her up
.   I'm surprised by the stitches.  Thought they normally used dissolving stitches these days, but what do I know.  It's been 20 some odd years since I've had a female spayed AFTER adopting her.

The actual raised line is her stitches, but she has a bump under it. I called the vet, and they said it was because even locked up she still has things to jump on. Or she had a bad reaction to the internal dissolvable. I just got to watch her and make sure it goes down by the end of the week, but since she is still happy, in no pain, and eating just fine, they didn't see the problem.

And to answer you question/wonder...they do use dissolvable, and my vet offers a choice for the external sutures. I chose the non-dissolvable because I figured it would give Kaylee a bigger challenge to eat (and I was right).

My female had a lump where she was spayed as well. I forget what the vet told me but it was nothing to worry about. I want to say scar tissue?. It dissapeared after a few months.

If you are worried, talk to your vet. Better yet, call them anyway.
