My cat has been running away lately- I need advice

I have a Russian Blue cat that has been running away lately. He is an indoor cat 97% of the time. We ran away for three weeks and was starving. I found him in a storm drain. He has since been home for two weeks and has been grounded from going outside. He got out again last night, but we didn't see him rush the door. He is now missing again. I am starting to wonder if he is ill or has mental problems? Why would he want to go out into the cold world where there is no cat food, no warm beds, and no one to pet him. He has been fixed. So I don't think he is outside looking for female cats.

I would highly recommend a vet visit to rule out a medical reason. Once you get him back inside again, I would cat-proof your house so he can't get out again for now. Sometimes, when a cat is not feeling well, he will hide to protect himself from predators. Although most indoor cats find a place inside like a closet, that may be what is going on here.

Good news! Vodka is back home.

He is now wearing a collar with a bell.

Vodka is home safe & sound. I have seen others cats come out of the storm drain. I believe he is now missing his new girlfriend.

Im glad to hear that he came back. I do find it strange that he wants to go out in the first place. Maybe get him a nice harness and leash tame him for walks in the daytime. =) he might just be tapping into his basic instincts. Good luck with everything!
