Hi all

I'm hoping someone can help as I'm really worried. We have had our new Kitten for 1 week and she has been full of energy, bouncing around the house at all times of day and night. My other cat is yet to be convinved but they have been tolerating each other quite well. All was progressing well until yesterday.

I was feeding both cats, just done with Ali and was starting on the kitten. Both cats were running about and I accidentily stood on the kitten, there ws a screech and then she ran away. When she ran she hit the door which made her nose bleed. We took her straight to the vet and they advised there was no damage internally, no signs of concussion and we were just advised to keep an eye on her.

When we got home she went up stairs and hid under the bed, we convinced her to comeout and then she spent most of the day sleeping on the bed. We brought her downstairs and realised that she had urinated on our bed. She urinated in the living room as well but since that, she has been using the tray as normal.

My worry is, that she is just sleeping, has no play in her and is drinking an excessive amount of water. From yesterday evening she has drank around 1/2 litre of water. She has not pooed since yesterday and was wondering if all her unusual behaviour could be down to stress related constipation?

I know it was an accident but I feel so bad about what happened and just want my wee plaful kitten back.

Any advice would be apprecited.

If health problems have been ruled out, it probably is just stress. It will go away with time. Keep an eye out for any of the symptoms worsening.

One of my cats freaks out whenever he goes to the vet and won't come near me for a few days after. He goes back to normal though soon enough.

How old is your little kitten?  I hope she is starting to settle down after your accident and you have managed to get her to eat something. These things happen, kittens get everywhere and it is so hard to protect them.  She has not been with you long and will have had quite a stressful week.  Please don't be hard on yourself, you did the right thing and took her straight to the vet.

It is very important that kittens and cats eat as well as drink.  If she has not eaten this evening try to coax her, and if she can't be persuaded try to get her to take a little wet food from a spoon or from your finger. If she only gets kibble you could try to hand feed her but if she won't take it try some pate type food as she needs calories to keep her liver healthy.

hoping you do not need this information and that she is back to being a super active ball of fur.
If she's not right by tomorrow morning I'd be back on the phone to the vet.

Hi, thanks for your comments. She is 9 weeks old.

She hasn't really eaten since yesterday, had a small munch this morning but that's it. I think part of the not eating is due to the constipation, she keeps trying to go but with no luck. She is urinating a lot due to water she's drinking!

She does seem a bit brighter now and has changed her sleeping spot, which has been the most movement in 24hrs, but is still not right.

I'll try and get to her eat some biscuits out of my hand tonight and if still not eating or toileting tomorrow, back to the vet!

Fingers and paws crossed here that your little one gets back to being busy by the morning.  I hope you can get her to eat a little. She will have had a big fright and will need some tempting out I am sure, and if she hasn't eaten for a bit she might start to feel a little sicky and be less willing to eat.

If she's not right, try to call the vet in the morning. It could all be down to the added stress of her little accident but sometimes stress triggers other things off so always better to check things out, especially when they are so little.

MServant,

Things seem to be improving, she ate her whole dish of soft food during the night and seems a bit brighter this morning.
She still hasn't gone to the toilet but things are looking up!
I'll be keeping a close eye on her but fingers crossed!

She's just little and had a big fright, sounds like she's getting better and will be ready for lots of TLC and kitten cuddles soon.  Keep us updated.

Just a quick update on Thea.

She is eating well and going to the toilet regularly now. Her energy and playfulness is returning gradually which is great to see.

Woo Hoo!!!

Thanks for your help and support!

So good to hear!  And thank you for taking time to update, it is lovely to hear when something is turning out well.

Here's to seeing many more posts from you, all with funny, cute and cheeky stories and pictures of Thea as she grows, gets faster, and reaches places you never imagined were possible!

Fingers and paws crossed she now stays of trouble, though kittens usually seem to find trouble pretty easily, it's like they're hard wired for it bless them.
