My cat scratches all the hair away round her eyes

Hi, I have adopted a 3 year old Burmese female cat and she  has behaviour problems; scratching all the hair around her eyes, almost hurting her eye. She hates being picked up or held; she's so scared of me, of people. She is afraid if I raise my voice.

So I figure I got a maladjusted, scared and neurotic, needy cat, who handled the yelling at her by scratching. The vet near me is not good, I have to take her to a better vet. that my friend goes to. he might tell me  how to stop all the scratch-abuse. I'm afraid she will ruin her eyes. Any advice would be great.

I do think she should be seen by a vet first to rule out any medical condition before trying behavior remedies.

How long have you had her? Most frightened cats will adjust with time and a little effort to reassure her fears. Spending time softly talking to her, offering some play time, and treats. Feliway diffusers can help too, but most of all patience and love.
