Hey everybody....I need to register my Maine Coon, Baubles, with the CFA (she's a pet, not a show cat -but she is a purebreed). She is a "brown tabby with white" with gold eyes (beautiful) and she is a wonderful girl.

The CFA provides for 35 spaces and the first spaces are for hte breeders' name...so right now, I have it as:

COONUNNSKI BAUBLES...

but I want to add something cute on the end....So get on your thinking caps, please.....

Would appreciate any help!

That is a sweet name. But what will you call him?

The two cats I just got are Steeplechase "Jake" of Dragon Pass. And Petmar "Hallie" of Dragon Pass. They are both adults and already named. I had to giggle when I saw Jakes mother's name. It is Steeplechase Hoochie Coochie!
I'm not sure how the names work but from Hallie's name it must be where the sire came from at the front and where the dam came from at the end of the name. And her name is in the middle.

Hi MsJazz...

Her call name is already Baubles.....but the former owner called her "Bubba-Do" as a pet name so we have adopted either - she comes to either, I mean...However, since moving to East Texas, my hubby has started calling her just "Bubba", which she also comes to....lol!

Coonunnski is the breeder I bought her from, by the way. And I have done research on her sire and her dam...it's pretty interesting stuff....

What kind of cats are Jake and Hallie?

Tamme- "Steeplechase" is the cattery where Jake was born, Jake is the name he was given and Of Dragon Pass is the cattery that now owns him. So maybe his name should be changed back to Steeplechase Jake

BTW Steeplechase have bred some of the most beautiful persians in the world!

The name that gets most looks is our Sophie her show name is "Grand Champion Grafton Kinda Nortie But Nice"

Stevie, my cats are persian. I have 5 of them! Only 2 have papers because the others were rescues.

I'm so confused how this name thing works. So even though my cats certificates have "of Dragon Pass" I should change it because he doesn't belong to them anymore?

Hallie's name is Petmar Hallie of Dragon Pass but I thought she was born at Dragon Pass. I guess I better ask Dragon lady. I have both cats pedigree but I don't understand it all. I've never had a cat that had papers!

MsJazz -

I've been researching the pedigree thing because i was trying to figure out what name I wanted for Baubles, and a lady kindly took pit on me and answered a question with regard to the names....Here is the info she gave me...hope it helps!

.............
Yes, Stevie, there is reason to the names. The cattery name of the breeder is the first element of the name. Second is the given name for the cat. Third comes the "of" + cattery name of the owner of the cat.

Cattery prefix Cooncreole (Judy/Dan Chapetta were the breeders)
Given name Atchafalaya
Cattery suffix of Tanasi (my registered cattery name for my Maine Coons

Cattery prefix Pengar (Penny Garrett's registered cattery)
Given name Tychoharaldsson (squashed together to get name of male cat
with name of his sire, my practice with the NFCs I own)
Cattery suffix of Kopjekaat (my registered cattery name for my Norwegian Forest Cats)

Unless you register a cattery yourself, which you are unlikely to do unless you decide to go into breeding, you cannot use "of" or any equivalent word (such as: von, de, av, del, etc.) following your cat's name. Baubles is stuck with Coonunnski Baubles, no "of" allowed! You are allowed a total of 35 letters and spaces, so you have enough room to add a second given name, roughly 20 letters/spaces to play with!

That way she will still be called "Hallie" too! And she is a tiny little mite.

My other one is Jake. And he has tamed the Persian cat I've had the longest (Peaches aka Princess). Peaches doesn't like any of the other cats but when Jake came she was smitten! I caught them laying nose to nose on my bed the other day! So.... I showed a picture of them and the previous owner replied with "Jake you da man!" So I was thinking of re-naming him "Jake da Man" or something.. not sure about his yet. But I have to get permission to change it from all previous owners first.
