You need to take him to another vet. Sorry that you're going through this.

I had a similar problem 2 months ago and thought she had a ear infection. The vet suspected heart problems and confirmed after an ultrasound that she had a whole series of heart ailments. Despite the best of efforts and meds she died 2 weeks ago. Please check your cat out for heart problems.

Poor thing! How is he walking funny? Is it just one leg or all 4? Is he dragging his paw/leg or is he acting like he can't lift it? Has there been a change in his diet? Any chance at all that he got into something he should not be eating (plants, food, foreign object)? Did he play harder than usual, jump and land oddly or do anything memorable - sometimes it is the smallest thing, the thing that doesn't seem connected to the rest.

I'm glad the tests came back okay, was it blood work and xrays? Sorry for all of the questions, but since we can't see him, it is hard to have an idea of what is wrong. My Dood had ataxia and tremors in his legs but it was a side effect to an antibiotic he was given the week before. The tremors were awful, but the ataxia was even worse to see because he went from such an active cat to unable to move, so I remember all too well how scary it is to watch
.

I'm not sure what country you're located in, but there may be a vet in your area that does free consults for new pets. We literally emptied out the bank for Dood's first 2 vet visits and don't use credit, so when things took a turn for the worse I was able to get him in for a second opinion at another vet for free (google your postal code with "free vet visit" or something similar). Something isn't right, did the vet hint at ANYTHING?

This is the point that I knew we had to speak with another vet and some of them DO understand the financial issues that arise. Let us know of any changes!

A friend of mine had a cat who was suddenly started stumbling to one side and staggering. I noticed it first while giving him a treat. It was subtle at that time. Over a course of two weeks he deteriorated to collapsing at times usually with a head drive. It seemed to be at moments of excitement. then he would regain himself and move on. Very sad to see. It turned out he had a brain tumor which was triggering seizures. Sorry about your dear one. Does it look like a seizure of sorts?

I am not a vet and only this one experience of strange falling to compare your problem to but maybe mention possible seizures to the vet?

Did the vet give you any medication?  My cat stopped walking twice now.  First time he started walking again within 5 days....this second time it has taken longer...about 7 days and he is coming about slowly.  The only thing he is on is prednisone.  I had blood work and xrays and they did not show any issues.  They believe it might be neurological and suggested a consult.  Like you money is an issue and can't afford expensive mri's and such.  I will be happy if he gets most of his mobility back and can lead a happy, yet not so active life.  I hope the best for your cat also.
