We've been having such extreme weather which made me wonder..

What's the warmest place you've ever been?   And the coldest?

(I mean geographical places... not  "a sauna and the freezer"
)

I don't think I've ever been much colder than in a London winter.

And I think the hottest I've been was in a cheap hotel in Bankok, with no air-con.

Coldest place - right here at home in Ottawa over winter. lt gets pretty frigid some years.

lt gets pretty hot here too at summer, but l think the hottest temperature was on a trip to Las Vegas in August. l got off the plane and felt like l was walking into an oven, the waves of heat were incredible.

Warmest, was Las Vegas probably.  I remember it being well over 100 degrees in April.  Did not like but thankfully, you don't have to do much walking outside there!

Coldest, is right at home here in the tri-state area of the US.  It can get pretty cold in the winter at times, down into the lower teens and even has reached single digits on rare occasions.

EDIT: Just realized Andrya said Vegas also.  Seriously, one can not even explain the type of heat there.  It is mind numbing. It has to be experienced to understand.

Also, if anyone has been in a NYC subway in the middle of summer - that's brutal also.  When it's been 90ish outside for days on end, underground becomes unbearable.  I have no idea what the temperatures are but it has to be at least 10 degrees or more higher down there, plus it's dank, humid and stagnant still air.  Like, fainting type of a situation.  Ugh.

Warmest is a tie: Guayaquil, Equador and Tulum, Mexico.

Coldest: probably a horse show in Tennessee one winter when I was soaked from the rain and it started freezing between rides. I stopped eventing after that.

Death Valley, California, is the hottest for me. I was raised in southern California were temps were regularly over 100 (F) every summer.    And you are right about Las Vegas!  Same kind of heat as southern CA.

Coldest?  In general, I don't deliberately go anywhere where I know it will be cold....
Our cabin in northern California can get cold in winter, down into the teens temperature wise.

OMG I totally forgot about Mexico!

We weren't at Tulem, but one of the smaller ruins. Holy moly.  One of the worst sight seeing expeditions of my life.  I was so overwhelmed by the oppressive heat and high humidity, I couldn't enjoy walking around at all, and there was almost no where to get out of the sun.

Won't ever do that again.

Warmest: India.

Coldest: Russia and Finland. Canada of course can be pretty close, in the peaks of winter.

Those are the places I remember when I was a kid - I've also been to Hawaii, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and so forth, but I was only a baby/toddler then, so can't properly recall!

Hottest place was Almaty Kazakhstan

Coldest home state of Michigan, winters can get cold especially when the wind chill gets factored in. Remember one winter while still in school that they canceled school because of the wind chill temp was in the negative and wind chill had dropped it into the negative 20's.

I have only been in NJ/NY/PA.

Husband was born in and lived for about 10 years in Pakistan where 100+ is common.  Yeah no thanks! He will tell you NJ is the coldest place he has been.  He is ALWAYS cold except the hottest of summer days.  During winter he barely goes out and when he does I usually turn his car on a bit before so he can go into a warmed up car.

Makes gift buying easy.  Heat packs, heated blankets, scarves, thermals.

Hottest - Holiday in East Africa , it was hottest in land where it was like being baked in a dust bowl but felt worse over on the coast in Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar because it was right before monsoon and the humidity was evil.  No air con, in fact little or no electricity anywhere.

Coldest - Flat I lived in as a student in Edinburgh.  It was a really cold winter, regularly minus 0 celcius for weeks on end, icy but only occasional snow. The flat only had a 2 bar electric heater in one room.  We had sheets of ice on the insides of the windows for several weeks and when friends of mine came up for a long weekend one of them (who had disabilities and couldn't move much to keep warm) left with a bit of frost bite in her fingers!

I guess the hottest place I've ever been and don't ever want to return is Florida.  I hated the heat and humidity,  just don't see how people live there all year long. The coldest place is right here in NJ since we get very cold winters but I'll take the cold rather than the heat anytime.

I moved to Florida, from NJ, for a little over 3 years when I was in my 20's.  I utterly hated it.  While a beautiful place to live in general (or at least where I was), I found the weather unbearable in summers.  I'd run from my air conditioned apartment, to my air conditioned car, to my air conditioned office and then vice versa at the end of the day.  I really am just not meant for any climate where the humidity and heat get that high.  I can't even begin to describe the amount of glee I had when I had the opportunity to move back home.

Those are the exact same words I used to describe life in southern California!  Funny.  I don't miss it, that's for sure.

Just because a place is hot all year long doesn't mean it's for everyone.  Having to live in a/c almost all year long is a horrible thought.  At least here, we have our seasons and lots of times don't need the a/c or heat, we can just open the windows.  I know a lot of retirees live there, I know a lot of older people just can't take the cold.  I'm a Sr. Citizen but can't take the heat, don't particularly like the Summers at all.

I lived in San Diego most of the 70's and never thought it was all that hot unless the climate has changed since I lived there.  San Diego is supposed to be one of the best climates in the Country unless of course that statistic has changed.  I loved it there tho and you cannot compare it to the heat and humidity in FL.

Warmest is Qatar in the Middle East.

Coldest is probably the Alps in France but I felt the coldest camping for a week in northern England in October when I didn't get to go inside for a week!

Have to stick up for Florida! I'll take the humidity any time over the dry heat in Las Vegas. It was 111 degrees when we were there and I hated it.

While we deal with the hot weather here in Florida in the summer time ---and it's hot all over, sometimes hotter up north than down here --- the winter more than make up for it. No winter coats, boots, scarves, gloves, fur lined jackets, etc. And we have the most beautiful blue skies and beautiful white clouds. Last time I was in NY it was just so grey, dreary and depressing. Was ready to kiss the ground when we got back home.

Yeah, the temps in San Diego are great.  We were just there a couple of weekends ago--I love it there, too.  I'm talking about the "Inland Empire"--a couple of hours north and inland from San Diego and a whole different animal, weather-wise.  LOL
