Hi guys,
I have a quick question. This is probably nothing but wanted to get opinions. My 4 yo male kitty, Oscar has decided to regurgitate his food. He did it today and one time earlier this week. Occasionally he'll regurgitate a meal and then nothing for a long time, so twice in a week made me pay a little more attention. It is right after a meal and I've noticed him eating quickly. He is a bit of a chow hound...kitty? and I am trying to get him to lose a bit of weight. He is very healthy otherwise, eating obviously, drinking, playing and peeing and stools are normal. Pretty much both regurgitation issues were right after eating a mix of dry and his canned. Another thing I was thinking was I brought a new dry food into the rotation and that might be it. I normally rotate and just add new dry to old dry till transition is complete. I mix food in a plastic container and both cats have been fine this way. One time I will get Acana, next I will get TOTW, maybe felidae ect. Anyways, I wanted to try the simply nourish grain free from petsmart as I had a coupon. I probably won't get it again as it has too high a fiber content for my constipation prone female, but it might be the culprit.
Basically I'm pretty sure he is fine but wanted opinions from other cat people. Reading on the Internet you always get worse case scenarios. If it was straight vomiting, or bile ect he'd be going to the vet right away, but I've always been under the impression that regurgitation is less serious and mostly because they eat too fast, which is probably the case with my piggy guy.

If you notice him eating quickly, then that could very well be it. Dry food is more likely to cause regurgitation that wet food. Others have suggested putting golf balls in the food ball to help slow down eating. My one cat Boo will eat too fast, but I never got around to trying the golf ball trick. Instead, I feed him in intervals and this has helped tremendously.

A new food that wasn't introduced slowly could definitely cause it. If, it turns out, that he really likes the new food and is scarfing it down, there you're back at him eating too fast.

Regurgitation can also be a result of a food intolerance. For example, my cat Caesar used to eat the TOTW Rocky Mountain Feline Formula, but he regurgitated it almost every time. Turns out, he couldn't handle the venison. It's too rich for him.

Worse case scenario, regurgitation can be a sign of a blockage. But if he's peeing and pooping normally and regularly as though things are going through just fine, then I think this would be a the bottom of the list.

I would try slowing down his eating and see if it helps.

Thanks! I think it is him eating too fast. I fed him smaller portions throughout the day and he has been fine. I had thought the worst at first, blockage, because I read too much on the Internet. I highly doubt it though because he is pooping regularly and it is normal and peeing fine as well. Also he still insists we play every night with his feather toy. Pretty much his routine is normal aside from the occasional regurgitation.

Great to hear he didn't vomit when you controlled the portions!
I know it is a bit of a pain to do it this way, but it's better than cleaning up a mess, right?
