I thought a cat was in the yard

We live out in the country, and the neighbor across the street feeds a lot of cats (no idea how many but it is a lot), so it's not unusual for there to be a cat or two in our yard. But most of them are feral and take off if you speak to them.

Well I was leaving for work the other day, and it was 6:30am so still dark, and I saw a cat near the house. I said "Hi kitty" and went on my way, but thought it was strange that the cat didn't take off.

Well in the light of day, it was a broken cinder block! It was broken in half and at the angle and distance I was at, plus the dark, looked just like the shape of a cat lying in the grass watching for something interesting. I felt kinda dumb after I realized I'd greeted a cinder block!

Well not TNR needed for that "new cat".

Years ago I thought the outside cat was resting in his carrier/home and started to reach in but something did not feel right.  It was a possum!  So I will take Cinder any day over THAT.

Oh, that's funny!!!!  Glad to know I'm not the only one.  I can't tell you how many times I have got up at night and thought I was seeing the outline of one of my black cats only to find out it was a shoe or pillow or whatever...

My daughter has a toy horse that is the same size and color as Peanut. She got it last year for Christmas and I still think it's Peanut every time I pass.

LOL I am glad I'm not alone. Now I kinda laugh to myself every time I see that cinder block. It still kinda looks like a cat in the dark, too!

That's funny--pretty soon you're going to have to name it.

My boyfriend already thinks I'm insane! I can't name it (or at least, can't tell him I named it).

I once got home and thought "how did my cat get outside?" and it was a fox sitting in the driveway. It looked just like my cat.

Cindy sounds good to me:O
:lol3: Least she won't cost much to feed.

I did something similar a couple of winters ago. One night I glanced out the window and saw a cat sitting in the driveway, and then a few hours later it was still there. I was starting to get worried as it hadn't moved and was just about to go outside to investigate when someone pulled in and the headlights revealed the cat to be a pile of snow. :doh2:
