My biggest fear happened today...I thought Tiki had gotten out of my apartment!

First of all, I had to call Maintence for the bird in my chimney. The guy came up & happened to bring the new screen for my sliding glass doors. He took a look at the chimney & said that there wasn't anything he could do but cut a hole in the wall to get it out.
After that, he installed the screen. I watched him the whole time and I didn't see either cat by the door. After he installed it, he left & I didn't think any more about it. About an hour later, Ric came over to see my apartment. Since he hadn't met the girls yet, I thought I'd bring them out for him. I found Echo under the bed, but I couldn't find Tiki. After a few minutes of searching I started to panic. Ric & I tore this place apart looking for her and we couldn't find her. I instantly thought that she got out the balcony door. I ran out there to look for her & she wasn't there. So, we searched the place again - nothing! I totally freaked out & we ran down stairs looking for her. We searched the entire grounds outside yelling for her & still no Tiki. Ric went to the swimming pool to look & I begged him to look inside. I couldn't bear the sight of possibly seeing her in that pool. Then the tears started to flow because I knew she had to be so scared & I was worried about her being hurt or killed. Finally after 45 minutes of searching outside, I reported it to the Management of the apartment. They looked at me like I was freakin' crazy! I stormed back inside the apartment & felt like my hope for her was gone. I didn't know what else to do. Then Ric decided to go into the bathroom & for some crazy reason he looked behind the trash can & the toilet...AND LOOK WHO WAS THERE! Yep Tiki! She was so scared & managed to squeeze herself in this tiny little spot. I grabbed her & loved her! Ric laughed at me, but I didn't care...she's my baby & it's my duty to make sure she's ok 100% of the time.

I think she was just frightened by all the commotion of the day. She's never been real fond of men & I happened to have the Internet guy, the Maintence guy & Ric here today. Poor baby...I felt horrible but yet so relieved that she was ok. I ran out to Petsmart & picked up some safety collars for both of them. There the ones that break apart if caught on something. Now, I've got to get tags for them & I'll feel much better.

After today, I think I need some Prozac or something!

Oh my gosh! It's a horrible feeling you get when you think your kitty is missing, regardless of if they really are or not. I'm glad Tiki was safe and sound the whole time.

Thanks! My blood pressure is slowly going down...and it's been 6 hours!
Tiki a little ticked at me...that collar is bugging her! But that's just too dang bad..it's staying on! It's even got a bell on it, so I can hear her. It was funny after I put it on. She couldn't figure out where the bell was. She would jump & run around looking for the crazy bell!

I'm just so happy that she's safe & locked in this place. I hope I never have to go through that panic ever again. It's so ironic. I had worried about this months & months ago and then Sicy wrote about Zoey escaping. I felt the panic in that post, but I never thought Tiki would pull a stunt like this. Boy was I wrong! That little girl probably shortened my life span by a good 10 years!

Thanks again everyone. Like I said, I'm just overwhelmed that she's safe.

I always panic a bit if I don't know where the cats are. And they can't really go outside without me knowing, because from home, there are three doors between inside and outside. I have "trained" them to the sound of a container of treats, so if I am really worried, I can just walk around the apartment shaking the tin, and they come out. That even worked when they were hiding under the bed at my sister's house because there was a dog there.

They still have hiding spots I don't know about, but when I shake the treat tin, they come strolling out like nothing was out of the ordinary.

I am glad Tiki is ok. I always worry as 3 of my babies always try to escape out the back door and they are indoor cats. The collars sound like a good idea.

How did the meeting of Ric and the cats go. It was very sweet of him to help you search for your baby!

I'm glad that Tiki is safe and sound. I know the feeling when you think one of the Kitties have gotten out. I have lost several of mine in the house a couple of times. That's rather difficult since I made sure the house was cat proof as far as any hiding places where I couldn't see them. I lost Blu once after someone came to visit. She hates visitors and always takes off. I searched everywhere for over a half and hour and couldn't find her. She's a pretty big girl, so I knew she couldn't get under anything. I was positive she hadn't gotten out the front door, but after awhile I started to panic and resorted to searching some really off the wall places. I looked in the dryer and washer even tho they were both closed and I even considered the possibility that she got out thru the dryer vent, altho she would never fit. I finally found her in the back corner of the Kitty Playground in a section that I had blocked off with boxes. She had somehow gotten behind them.

thank goodness they are ok. I lost Matty once and went bonkers tearing my house up, turns out she got shut in a cabinet, rather than worry, she curled up on a towel and went to sleep. She got a lot more loving that day then she wanted, so I can relate.

Oh Shell, I could feel your panic. I would be the same way. Why do people look at us like we are mad when it comes to our furbabies? Poor Tiki, it must have been a bad day for her too. Thank goodness Ric found her - mega points go to him for helping you look for her.

I'm so glad she is safe. I know how you feel, its horrible not being able to find them. They can hide in the smallest places! When I know someone is coming over to fix something or something like that I usually gather them all together and put them in my bedroom until the person is gone, that way I dont have to worry about an escape.

Phew thank goodness she was found safe and well(?) I cant believe sometimes how small and invisible even a rather large cat can make itself when it needs to. My Mischa who is all black rather large and fluffy can just simply DISSAPEAR at will and REAPPEAR at will as well. She is nearly always found in the places where I KNOW I have searched and called and gone totally frantic. Then she just gives me one of those looks (you know the sort).
I certainly wish I had access to that cloak of invisibilty then i could scare them

I'm so glad she's safe and sound. I don't understand why the management of your building looked at you like you were crazy, because you were so upset about your cat, though. What's wrong with those people?

OMG I can imagine how you were feeling! I'd be going absolutely crazy. To hell with the prozac! Get some valium instead!
I'm so glad you found Tiki safe and sound. Tell her, don't hide from mommy!

Today I was talking to the mailman and had the door cracked. Carmella tried to sneak out and I wouldn't have noticed but the mailman saw her and reached down to stop her. Then I put her in the house and closed the door to talk to the mailman on the porch. Then I heard Carmella meow for the first time from the other side of the door. She was funny! She was jumping up the door meowing.... silly girl likes to be where ever I am!
