Seeing how so many people's trying to scrimp and save money,my question is.. What are you saving for?

Nothing in particular, just trying to stretch money as far as I can.

Retirement, more than anything at this point. I have money taken from my check into a type of retirement account. And Rick and I both have plans set up for retirement concerns. Rick would like to retire in another 4 years or so and I need to go another 7. Believe me, I wish I could retire now.

Pam's Stash -- I save all my change, even my pennies. I don't go out to lunch and I don't buy anything from our snack machines here at work. At the end of the week, whatever change I have rustling around in my car and in my wallet goes into a jar. And then every few months, it goes into my savings account. Even little amounts of change can add up. That's how I buy a lot of things around the house....it's just through change and whatever money I can save throughout the weeks and months. We have a budget for groceries and when I stay under that amount, Rick will just give me the difference for my stash. I get an allowance every other week and sometimes I'll have a few bucks leftover from that. That's how we're getting our refrigerator and that's how I bought the entertainment center for the living room when we bought Rick's tv. Just through change and sometimes, some dollar bills here and there. I save as much as I can.

I'm so lucky, my husband was a railroader for 32 years and I get to start drawing retirement at age 60! We made our retirement money by remodeling houses, it was a good way to make money with hard work and little money! Right now we're saving for a little 'mini' vacation to Salina, KS where my husband once lived and we both like. It gets us away, but naturally only for a couple of days, I've got cats you know, and can't stand the idea of my ferals not eating. They come at 4:00 in the morning and no one is willing to come at that time.
I can't leave it out because of the raccoons! My husband gets a little upset by this but I remind him they won't be with us forever and we can travel all he likes in the future.

We are saving to breed our Berger Blanc Suisse.  She is almost two so she needs all her health clearances(so saving for those) then saving to have her AI'd once we find a stud in Europe that meets my very picky standards.  lol

A new roof! This one is over 50 years old. Our car is getting up there, too, so we have to start saving for a new one.

my hubby is a railroader too (UPRR) and probably going to retire next year. he's 65 and been with the railroad since he was 18. i'm 55. we've been fixing the house up so everything will be done and the house will be paid off in 4 years.

When I leave my job in a few weeks time and have no income  (and everything I'd saved already and a whole lot more is now needed to pay for roof work on the building).

A whole bunch of things.

A new roof for the 23 year old house (though we might have to do savings to pay for it)

College tuition for the oldest.  She's at a private school and we try to help as much as we can.

College tuition for youngest.  Though she's thinking about an in-state public school so it won't be quite as bad as oldest.

Retirement.  In our 40's, but retirement scares me.

That and the fact that dh's parents are getting older.  So is mom. We keep thinking there may come a time that we have to move.  I don't want to- our house isn't huge, but it's not like it's so big that it's just sad when it's just dh me and Holly and Sam (the furry children).  But to retrofit this house with an inlaw suite (we would probably have a parent living with us or at least visiting us) wouldn't work with the current floor plan we have

We are currently in a horrible rental situation and are desperately trying to save up enough money for a security deposit and first months rent on a new place. I cannot wait to get out of this Hellhole!

I am sure my cats will be pleased to move elsewhere, too. Much less stress, no other people, more space and windows to watch the squirrels... it will be like paradise!

I live in an almost 100 year old house. It's a constant battle to mend, fix and upgrade.  Whatever extra money I have goes into that mostly.  Luckily, my job has a profit sharing plan so retirement money gets put away automatically, and my current holdings are doing ok.  We're opening a 401K for the company this coming year, so I'm going to make a point to put part of my paycheck into that each week.  Retirement, is the other huge thing which looms ahead (I'm nearly 55).
