Hi all,

Our cat Layla is struggling with issues regarding doing number 2. The problem isn't constant which is making me lean towards her being nervous. Here is the details..

We moved to another city recently and where we came from Layla was the only pet. We still only have Layla but where we moved to lives 2 dogs and another cat. The dogs are not an issue as they seem to be rather cat friendly. Layla is spayed but the other cat is not neutered. Sometimes her poo looks to be quite runny and other times normal, then also randomly after pooing she will wipe her bottom on the tiles or carpet. She has much more exposure to a garden compared to where we previously stayed, and has been nibbling on grass etc. a lot.

Now my questions..

Is it a health issue? Is it nervousness from the not neutered male following and chasing and yelping and fighting her every step of the way? Or is it just normal settling in and getting used to the grass etc?

If it's a health issue, obviously a trip to the vet is in order. If the other cat, is there pheromones one can purchase to keep the male away or to calm her a bit. I don't want to hurt the male cat but he gets violent with her and that boils my blood.

Thanks for any words of advice!

I would recommend a vet visit. Nerves will not cause a change in stool consistency. The scooting also indicates a physical problem.

The intact male could also present a danger to her if he is aggressive towards her. Were they introduced properly? Is there a way to keep them separated? You can try a Feliway pheromone diffuser as well. Is there a reason the male is still intact? Neutering him will help calm him down.

The intact male is owned by other tenants staying on the same property as us. They don't really seem to care about their cat's behaviour and I doubt that they plan to neuter the cat. We left the 2 of them to smell each other on their own time and he obviously forced himself onto her due to his urges I guess. I also doubt that we can seperate them unless we keep her locked is which is an issue for us as we moved from a flat where she had limited space. We want her to enjoy the outside but know that the intact male will keep harrassing her until he is fixed. We will take her to the vet anyway just to be sure.

Thanks
