The bit about the breakfast sounds nice. You two are a really happy pair aren't you. :-)
For the most part? Yes. I really do love the man....99.99% of the time. I think I'm pretty lucky overall. We have our share of "discussions", though.

Oh gosh of course you do. Now that would be unnormal if you didn't. It that you both do so much together. It's like my mum and dad. He was writing to me and then he wrote that he had to stop as he had to go and choose the wallpaper mummy wanted!

Thanksgiving isn't a holiday here, so we're just going to celebrate on a small scale: goose legs, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes (very rare here, but I lucked out this year), green beans and either coleslaw or a tossed salad. No dessert.

Due to my knee being an issue, I've decided to stay home with my BF this year instead of driving over 2 hours to my youngest sister's house. She said she had to throw it this year because her husband is on call (doctor).  Truth is, they easily could have gone to my other sister's house in separate cars but she was being cranky about doing that.  Plus she hasn't even had the wherewithall to actually call either of us directly to tell us it's even at her house.  Like, we were supposed to divine it out of the air.

My brother was refusing to go also - for him it's a 3 hour drive.  And she doesn't have the room to put anyone up for the night, and kind of lives in a very small town with little to no hotel availability off-peak, let alone Thanksgiving.  My other sister will be going to her since she's only 45 minutes away, but she isn't thrilled that we're not showing up.

So, I invited my brother and his kids to my house.  My home is on the small side, but I can accommodate them.  I'm going to try not to go overboard cooking to spare my knee, and hopefully the older of his kids will help out since she really loves to cook.  The good thing about this is that my brother is very experimental in his food tastes, as we are, so it gives me an opportunity to expand the menu away from the usual things that we don't really care for but are traditional and nobody ever discards from the day.

The bad thing is I'm sure it's going to cause a rift with my youngest sister.  But, I can't worry about that.  If she can't see the absurdity of us driving that far when it would be easier for the majority to be elsewhere, she'll just have to get over it.  My parents would be horrified if they were alive.  But then again, if alive, we wouldn't be in this situation most likely. *sighs*

What! No pumpkin pie? I thought that was mandatory for thanksgiving.

I started to write to you but something happened in the middle. I said siblings can be difficult as can parents.
My sister was expected to go to mum and dad Friday evenings - sabbath eve for Jews - or for them to go to her. If there was a change dad got cross. I was talking to my sister and I told her my son is so silly. He phoned and said would I be upset if they didn't come on a certain Friday as they've been invited out. O told him not to be so silly and for all of them to have a good time. Mysister said he was lucky. Maybe your sister was expecting you all not to go. Will she make a big thing out of it?
What will you make?

I decided to surprise hubby--we'll be going to our friends' house next door for dinner on Thursday but I know he will be bummed to not have T-Day  leftovers for the weekend!  When I was at Whole Foods yesterday I saw they are offering pre-made dinners so I ordered a small one for him.  I'll pretend I'm going out to run errands Friday morning, go pick it up and surprise him with it.

Oh man--just as I was typing this I realized that will be Black Friday and the shopping center will be a freaking ZOO!  Arrgghhh.
 What was I thinking....

Oh, well...
It will be worth it, he'll be delighted.

@betsygee. Aren't you getting a little meal for yourself as well?
@MargeCat. Won't you make a small thanksgiving meal for yourself? It's rotten being alone on the holidays.

We're celebrating Thanksgiving at the school where I teach today. Everyone is going out to the basketball courts and we're eating together during lunch break. I guess this will be my first official Thanksgiving dinner.

Oh she was expecting us for certain.  She finally texted me yesterday saying "You are coming to Thanksgiving, right?!"  I said no.  As did my brother.  But it seems like she understand our reasons or at least is pretending to so that's ok with us.

I invited my brother to my house, with his kids.  We all get alone nicely, he likes my BF and vice versa so it should be a pleasant and somewhat more peaceful day as there won't be the two dogs running around either (both sisters have them after having cats for years).  Now I'm looking forward to making dinner for us, I took off on Wednesday so that I have time to get to the market.

I'll be making semi-traditional; turkey of course but none of us like the typical side dishes (i.e.; the canned cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, that awful green bean casserole, etc.) so I'm going to think out of the box and be more experimental.  I have some stuff floating around in my head - one of which was green beans with bacon in a sweet/sour mixture that I saw the other day.  Probably will make my version of cranberry sauce from fresh cranberries, vanilla and fresh orange juice in it.   Mashed potatoes instead of the sweet.  And no pumpkin pie - only my BF likes it and I'm not doing that just for one person lol.  We'll have apple instead.  I have a killer recipe for apple pie with a crumble top that has applewood smoked bacon in it, in a graham cracker crust.  Sounds odd but the bacon carmelizes and it gets to be like smokey candy.  Oh so good.

Obviously - I do NOT keep kosher ROFL

I'll have some of my yummy lentil loaf leftovers for myself. And I'll share the side dishes from his T-Day meal. Plus the  meal comes with a small pumpkin pie, which I will DEFINITELY take my share of!  LOL
   Thanks for asking.

You don't live all that far away from me. Why don't you join us for dinner.....I'd love to meet you. Thursday is to be a good day weather-wise. You're more than welcome.

I don't know if you know but here on Hanukkah we eat a lot of fried things probably due to the oil lasting 8 days.
Do here is a picture of my youngest grandchild eating a doughnut which is a deep seated custom here. Doughnuts I mean. And latkas

That photo is adorable Stewball!  And the donut isn't bad looking either :D

Since Hanukkah falls out on Thanksgiving this year, I am making a ton of latkes (potato pancakes) to go with the meal.  I forgot to mention that above.  I'm probably going to make homemade applesauce for it.

I haven't eaten meat for about 30 years.  :)  I do eat some dairy so yes, there will be some whipped cream on the pumpkin pie!
You've never tasted what--whipped cream on pumpkin pie?

Pumpkin pie.
I don't think English people eat pumpkin pie. I've only ever used it to make soup for my babies. When they were babies. Now they're middle aged.

Oh, I see.  I'm not normally a pie eater, but I love just about anything pumpkin flavored!
