I'm working on transitions to a partial wet food diet for my two cats. Pumpkin will eat anything but Simba is a dry food addict. First we tried the Grreat Choice shreds turkey and cheese and Simba ate it right up after two days of trying, but it made their poop smell really awful. So we tried Friskies shreds and he's not having any of it. Possibly because the smell isn't as strong. (The grreat choice had a strong smell, the Friskies shreds smell seems to be diluted by the liquid) We tried the Friskies pate in 'Poultry platter' and he loves it, went to it immediately. It's pretty smelly. So I was wondering if anyone who feeds Friskies could give their opinion on which flavors have a good strong smell? Thanks.

I have used it before, but I can't remember the exact flavours. All I know is that I try to avoid too much seafood. I tend to buy several flavours of different brands so my one cat doesn't get too fussy. The other one will eat anything, like your Pumpkin.
Have you tried putting toppers on? I have to do that with Wiggies even with cans he really likes. It's like he needs that smell to get him to realize that he's supposed to eat this.
Bonito flakes work well and are smelly, and I only need a tiny amount each time (which helps because they're so expensive).

Poultry Platter is one of the best flavors (has real turkey as the first ingredient instead of by-products), so if he likes that you're doing pretty good. The pate flavors are better quality than the shreds and filets because the chunky bits are usually made of wheat gluten and the gravy has carb-y thickeners. It's also best to limit fish; the fish-free flavors are Mixed Grill and Country Style Dinner.

I don't really find that Poultry Platter is especially strong-smelling, compared to the fish flavors anyway. So it might be a flavor/texture thing for him. I guess the only thing I can recommend is to get a couple cans of each flavor and takes notes about which ones he likes best.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I feed the Friskies pates to the ferals. They like the Poultry Platter, the Mixed Grill, the Turkey & Giblets, the Liver & Chicken, the Supreme Supper, and I do sometimes give them the Ocean Whitefish and Tuna, and they like that too.

I second using Pate as opposed to shreds - better ingredients as Willowy stated above.

Also second using Poultry Platter - Friskies or Grreat choice,

buy both whenever they are on sale.

"My" Ferals LOVE them!

I think the other flavors that LDG mentioned are about the best they have to offer - after the Poultry Platter,

as it is (as far as I know) still the only one that has real meat listed before by-products.

Oh, I have fed Salmon a few times as well, but as you likely know,

you should limit Fish based foods to once a week or so, especially if any of your Kitties are Boys

I fed the Ocean Whitefish when my kitty was sick, but as mentioned, fish needs to be limited.

You can try putting FortiFlora on food he doesn't like, most cats will go for FortiFlora.

I feed Friskies to my bunch and by far the stinkiest ones are the fish ones. Sea Captain's Choice, Classic Seafood Entree and Ocean Whitefish and Tuna top the list. I try to feed them mostly the non fish and find the Turkey and Giblets to have the strongest odor of that lot.

Mine prefer the pate style as well and won't touch the shreds or other varieties. Country Style Dinner, Poultry Platter and Supreme Supper are popular at my house.

I'm a new cat owner.  We adopted our cat 7 weeks ago.  But, even I have learned that the smell of stuff coming out of him is definitely related to the smell of food going in.  Our cat has a 100% canned food diet.  I bought the Friskies 32-can poultry pack (Meaty Bits & Shreds) & alternate that with a Kroger store brand I thought was good.  But, that will change in the future.  As far as smell, his litter box is the stinkiest after he's consumed anything with beef or seafood.  That's why chicken & turkey (of all consistencies - pate, chunks, etc) will be our mainstays going forward.  I figure if it's less smelly with poultry, then his digestive system agrees with it more.  I don't know if that's true.  I'm just assuming.  We're lucky Pye seems to like a wide variety of meat & textures.  So, once we've used up our supply of Friskies.  I'm going to put him on Sheba.  I know it's more expensive per ounce.  But, it might be a good middle ground between Friskies & the really expensive stuff like Royal Canin or Wellness, which I just can't afford.  For Thanksgiving & Christmas though, I bought him some cans of Merrick for a special treat.

Hi and welcome KansasGuest!

I would skip the Royal Canin, not worth the money.
Avoid corn and wheat. EVO 95 percent is probably similar to Sheba in price, and is much better quality.
