So after all kinds of tests and xrays and rhinoscopies there is no answer as to what is going on with my kitty. They have just diagnosed him with rhinitis or chronic inflammation and mucus in the nose which makes it a little hard for him to breathe and just seems like he feels bad overall as he is not himself since this all began.

I was just wondering if anyone elses cat had a similar diagnosis and if there was anything that helped and how they are doing today.

Gosh, I don't have any experience with this. Did the vet prescribe any meds to help with the inflammation? Could it be allergy related?

It could be allergy related which I believe has at least something to do with it but the specialists don't have any definite idea what is causing it just what is going on. They put him on Zeniquin, just to kill any secondary bacteria and prevent bacteria, and Piroxicam which after reading about it I am very hesitant to give.

Have you tried a daily antihistamine?  I have a girl with herpes who's always stuffy, sneezy, and snotty.  I give her 1/4 to 1/2 of a Claritin (Loratadine, 10 mg cut in halves or quarters).  It helps her tremendously.  Also, adding daily doses of Lysine to her diet might help, too.  I'd start with 1000mg divided into 2 doses.

What is peroxicam?  I've never heard of that.

I have a three year three year old Siamese. Out of the nowhere she developed loud breathing, which progressively got worse. Vet first thought she had a cold and prescribed lysine...no change. After a week her conditioned worsened to the point her breathing became extremely labored, she snorted and snored loudly. A rhinoscopy was performed and we got a diagnosis of chronic rhinitis. This was two months ago. She has been on azithromyacin, prednisone, and cerenia. Her condition has somewhat improved. We also give her steam from hot showers and have purchased a nebulizer. I wipe her nose with a warm washcloth continuously. We also bought her Fancy Feast tuna to stimulate her appetite, which has worked. She has quiet nights, but the mornings are extremely uncomfortable with sneezing fits, runny nose, and loud breathing. The vet has recommended piroxicam but am quite hesitant due to severe side effects. This is a lifetime condition. Vet bills are over 4k! My goal is to get this insidious condition under control. I understand your frustration, since we are going through the same experience. We are hoping for the best, but time will tell. Good luck and don't give up!

I have been seeing a Holistic vet and there are a lot of herbs they can give which definitely help as well as natural versions or prednisone that do the same thing without the side effects. Also acupuncture and laser treatments work very well. Let me know if you have any questions

Currently Hurley is being nebulised daily, gettting saline nose drops 3x a day, Natural Hydrocortisone derived from soy plant once a day, and a Chinese Herb called Xin Yi San with dramatic improvement.
