Hi,

I just switched my cat to Fancy Feast because she was vomiting the Friskies shreds she used to get and we wondered if it was food allergies.

I'd love her to eat Wellness or some other natural food brand (apart from the higher cost. Blah....) but I am not sure if it really makes a difference or not.

If your cat has food allergies, then avoiding that ingredient will definitely help. However, narrowing down what she is allergic to may be difficult. A limited ingredient novel protein wet food is usually recommended. If your cat is doing well on Fancy Feast though (the pates are actually pretty decent foods), then I wouldn't worry as much about switching to a higher quality food. Cats, being obligate carnivores, need a high animal protein / moderate fat/ low carb wet food. The foods in gravies and sauces are generally too high in carbs and also contain wheat gluten which is a common allergen in cats. This website written by a vet explains feline nutritional needs very well. www.catinfo.org. It also has a great comparison chart of wet foods commonly available in the US.

You could always buy Wellness when you can, I could direct you to some of their coupons so you can buy a can and see the reaction perhaps? I have my cat on a rotation diet, she has anything from FF classic, Friskies, Sheba, Soulistic, Wellness, Hound and Gatos, Evo, THK, amongst more brands. Not to mention she gets a variety of textures and of course flavors. She even gets a raw meal once a week. I personally think that better quality canned does wonders for cats. Not just better quality canned but also ingredient list, I've seen expensive cat food with tons of grains and veggies! Cats really don't need grains and have no need for veggies. Some cats need even more ingredient limitation. But for generally healthy cats with no problems I just stay away from grains (&wheat gluten) and try to limit the veggie intake and make sure they get plenty of water! So little to none kibble!

I have Stevie on dry food 2x a day 12 hrs apart with a wellness snack during lunch. She loves it, and i think its a good filler for whatever dry food doesn't have.
