Whatever the reason - she sure looks so much better! And it's so nice to SEE her beauty! She looks soooo much happier and more comfortable!
But Laurie--I have to thank you, again, for the lactoferrin information.  Despite her other 'issues', that's what turned the tide with her eyes.

But I'm quite sure the big improvement in her eyes came after we started the lactoferrin.
I want to ---> :wow: :wow: TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a beauty, first off. I have a love of white kitties to begin with. :heart3: That is how Perla's eye looks if I don't clean it every day. You can see the drainage crust over and her skin get red. GREAT idea on the saline solution. WOW - I am doubly/triply glad I found this thread.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

p.s. OH and Laurie. :flail: You are cracking me up with the "whatever". I know there is a new member with the Whatever username - so I had to think for a second. Is she talking to Whatever or is she using the word whatever. HEE HEE..... whatever..... :lol2:.

Thanks so much.   I did make note of that.  Today is day 2 for her on the Neomycin/Bacitracin Ointment and I see a good bit of comfort for her and improvement.  So she needed a bit more than just a warm compress as she got this very contagious eye problem from my new kitten who was diagnosed with the conjunctivitis.  Now someone is having diarrhea so have to watch and see who and take that into consideration, geez it was so easy with just one kitty!  :)

I honestly cannot believe this. :( I heard someone sneezing yesterday on and off and wasn't sure who until dinner time. It is Perla. :sniffle: Her left eye is dripping like a faucet and her right eye lids are all red. Her right eye NEVER had an issue before. She is sneezing and rubbing her nose. Can you believe the timing of this?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :paranoid: Right after I read the thread about the Lactoferrin. Ironic and odd. I guess I didn't KNOCK WOOD or something. :para3: She has not had a major flare up with symptoms in a very, very long time. Well over a year or more. Also, since she has been doing so well other than the weepy eye, I took her off of Lysine many months ago.

SO received the Lactoferrin yesterday. Started Perla on 500 mg. of Lysine with the added 1/2 capsule 125 mg. of Lactoferrin (twice daily both) last night. SHE ATE IT mixed in with her Fancy Feast and I thought GOOD, this may be easy. WRONG. Well, this morning, not so lucky. I had to pour some Fortiflora over the canned to get her to eat. :( :frusty: She makes me crazy. Any little change to her food no matter how minute, she usually detects. IF I have too, I will syringe her twice daily with the meds mixed in with wet. OR I will make up my own capsules and have to pill her with them after I roll them in salmon oil. She needs to receive these meds twice daily no matter what it takes. :nothappy:. My poor little :princess: Perla. I am worried about her now and hope the Lysine and Lacto will do their job so no vet. :cross:

Thought I would share a couple of pictures of my darling. ;)

AND, of course her famous profile sure to bring a smile. :D :happy3: :heart3:

I hope the ointment gives some relief. One of the ointment we tried for our cat Pushy actually helped. The vet said it can help with secondary infections, rather than the primary cause, so as it's not anit-viral it won't kill of the herpes virus.

feralvr feralvr oh no! I hope you can kick this flare-up in the butt and soon!

betsygee betsygee Molly is such a beautiful girl! She was lucky to be adopted by you as you've put the time and effort into getting her healthy.

:princess: Perla is doing much, much better!! After four doses of 500 mg. Lysine/125 mg. Lactoferrin - all of her symptoms have eased up incredibly fast. I was pretty worried about her two nights ago - she really was not feeling well and I am really impressed at how quickly the supplements took effect. Whether it is the Lysine or the Lactoferrin, or the combo of both, the change and improvement is really good. She is feeling better too, I can tell. Her left eye continues to weep but it is not running like a faucet as it was two days ago. Happy momma. :D :heart3:

She is readily eating up the Lysine (which she usually did anyway) with the added Lactoferrin IF I mix it in the Grilled Fancy Feast Chicken or Turkey - her favorite. Last night, however, she refused and I ended up syringing a small mixture of EVO canned with the meds into her mouth. She takes it very well for me. We work together quite well and I take my time. She gets lots of pets and kisses during the session. :lol3: I will syringe feed her the meds if she refuses to eat her food willingly on her own with the meds mixed in.

Will let you all know if and when there is a change in her weepy eye now that we have started the Lactoferrin. The Lysine never helps with the weepiness. So far, nothing has.

Glad to hear Perla responded quickly!

I ordered the Jarrow lactoferrin from Amazon and it arrived today, three days earlier than they said!
I've given Pushy his first dose with dinner tonight. He ate it up like he eats up everything. I'll update after he's been on it a while. I have really high hopes for this to finally stop the chronic weeping.

Well Mia and Princess are doing pretty good right now.   Mia goes back on her regular  canned cat food tomorrow after 2 weeks on the A/D Science Diet.  Her eyes have some tearing but are so improved after the Neomycin/Bacitracin Ointment.  She has enough energy to chase the kitten around when the kitten teases her!   The little one, Princess contracted diarrhea and when I took her off the Lysine it immediately cleared and she has regular stools now.   Princess, my baby who is 3 1/2 mos now is a wiry imp getting into so mch mischief but a cutie.  With lots of hard work and prayers I think they will pull out of this nasty URI crap!..... Whatever

Thank you. :hugs: I really am hoping for this stuff to work miracles !!!!!! :cross: Hey, it is something to try and it can't hurt. Good luck with Pushy. :rub:

Perla is doing REALLY WELL, folks. OK - still weepy. But, get this.... WAIT, you know what. FORGET IT. :flail: I don't want to jinx anything because it has been 2 1/2 years of doing daily something or another with her eye. So give me a few more days and then I will report back. But, overall, the princess - who is the :princess: of ALL of the Princesses (what I say to her :lol3: and she agrees :worship:) is making good progress and her flare up was knocked out cold.

OK - :paranoid: I think it is safe to say that for sure the Lactoferrin has made a difference in Perla's herpetic eye needing meds of some sort on a daily basis. This is the first time in two years that I have not had to put something in her eye such as Neo-Poly-Dex, Vetericyn gel, Ketotifen drops, or treat her surrounding eye lid sores (when they arise) with Neo-poly ointment. I really stay on top of her eye and do check it every single day. It is part of the morning routine and has been for over two years. I honestly am in awe because the only answer to this new positive development IS the introduction of the Lactoferrin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Her eye is still weepy - but I will say the amount of tears/drainage is at least 25% less. The ONLY thing I have been doing for her eye in the last two weeks is the morning wipe with a warm water soaked cotton ball and eye check. We have never gone two weeks like this before, I just can't believe it !!!! I do hope that this will continue and now that I have said something - well, you know.... :para2: :lol3: KNOCK WOOD pls. :D :bigthumb:

p.s. I was having to syringe in the beginning if she didn't finish up the mixture but now Perla is eating up the Lysine (which I have dropped to 250 mg. twice daily) and the Lactoferrin with out a problem. Gobbles it up mixed in with the FF. :happy3: GOOD GIRL :princess: I will update again after some more time and hope it will still be good news. :cross:

p.s.s. Laurie - YOU are an angel  for finding out this information and passing it along. :hugs: :hugs: I (and Perla :rub:) am so grateful to you and so happy that, so far so good. :cross:

Are there any GI side effects from lactoferrin?  I'd like to try it on my cats but we are working through constipation issues.  Have you noticed any side effects when it comes to BMs?  I want to avoid anything that may bind up my kitties even more.

My cats are regular users of lysine but lately one of them has been sneezing.  No discharge from nose or eyes yet.  I want to nip it in the bud though.  I've increased her lysine dosage but I can't say if it's helped much.  The good news so far is that it hasn't gotten worse.

I certainly haven't noticed any GI problems with Molly.  BUT--poor Molly also has IBD, so she's on probiotics, slippery elm bark, and budesonide for those issues.  The only result I've had from the lactoferrin is a good one--her eyes still weep and I clean them regularly but the redness and irritation around her eyes is gone and she just seems so much more comfortable.

I haven't seen any impact on stools, and I have a kitty that gets constipated rather easily.

I did have a kitty get diarrhea from the lysine.
