My neighbour came to my door tonight asking if I had lost a kitten. She was carrying a little grey/cream female, about 3 months old. She had found it in her garden, being worried by her dogs. So of course I have taken her in. This little one is not in a good way, though I don't think the dogs harmed her. She has a bad eye infection and a swollen wormy tummy, but also a look of being sick, though she is not thin. I can't quite explain it. I have put her in a cage in the back hall, with all the necessaries, and deflead her. I don't have any kitten food right now and the grain free wet I give to the others might be too rich for her, so I gave her some dry crunchies, which she is eating fine.

She is not feral - she likes being picked up and showed no fear of me, though she did not like the look of Honey, the dog, but since she had just been attacked by two dogs that is understandable. Tomorrow I will treat her eye and deworm her, and get her to a vet on Tuesday since tomorrow is a public holiday. I think she must have been dumped in our lane today and made her way into the garden. This is a holiday weekend here so it is a likely scenario.

This one though, I cannot keep. I have kept the previous two who were brought to me in August, which makes 10 cats. I am really struggling to keep the place clean and smell free with litter boxes in every room. I will make this little one better and then advertise her - I think she could be very pretty - her coat is an unusual mix of cream and grey. And she is certainly already friendly. Why do people do these things? It makes me so mad.

Jenny:  I can sympathize - my neighbors moved and left their cat, which I caught and still have.  He's probably going to be a permanent resident.  He needed neutering, de-worming and de-fleaing - and he was an inside-outside cat!  I just don't get people.  He brings our total up to 8, although we have a foster kitty right now too.  She was found in our local landfill, starving to death.

Your new baby sounds like a dilute tortoiseshell.  They are lovely cats.  God bless you for helping her and good luck finding her a new home.

Yes, you are right - now that I have been able to see her in the light, she is a dilute tortie with a lot of cream on her face. She is doing fine - I came down to empty bowls and a used litter tray. I put some antibiotic ointment on her eye ( I always have it in the house for Wellington's herpes) and she just purred on my lap as I dropped it in. As today is a public holiday I cannot contact the vet but I will phone them tomorrow and get her in as soon as possible.

She sounds like she's going to be a beautiful little girl. Thank you for taking care of her.

Thank you for rescuing the little baby. If you cannot keep her I know that you will be sure to find her the perfect forever home.

Post some pictures if you can.

I think if just 1 person took in a cat the world will be a nicer place.
