Hello everyone,

I got my persian kitten back after spraying her. She is EXTREMELY lethargic and struggles even to walk. Whenever she tries she ends up tumbling to her side. She is 8 months and went into heat and I took her to the vet few days later and got her the operation without my family's consent.

Anyways I am rather scared of her current state, she's struggling to walk and just sits in one area, and she's not sleeping her eyes are wide open and she looks wide awake, just like she's paralyzed. She's not eating or drinking water. The vets are closed right now so I cant contact them.

Is this normal and what else should I do for good post operative care.

How long since she was spayed?

That sounds like neurological signs. I'd call an emergency clinic and tell them the symptoms that you're seeing.

Peaches, going on the title of the thread and the time it was posted, 15 mins ago, I think she was spayed today. Angora I think you may find that it is the after effects of the anaesthetic. When my Ginny was spayed she was spaced out for about 30 hours afterwards. Just let her relax somewhere dark and warm where she can't be disturbed.

Sorry that was an over panicked moment, she managed to walk to her litter box I helped her so she doesn't loose balance, and now she's snoozing :)

OK, good. The reason I asked is because I've never picked up a spayed/neutered cat that had that severe of symptoms. Hence I wondered when she was spayed, as in hours.

Did they give you any instructions when you picked her up?

When Abby was spayed, I was given no instructions, brought her home, opened her carrier she took a few steps and started stumbling and fell over. Her eyes were completely dilated and she was acting like she was drunk. I completely freaked out and called my vet, who was not the one that payed her and they hadn't even seen her yet. I was told that most likely she was one of the later sprays of the day and that she may have been given a bit too much anesthesia. She also couldn't keep any food down. Apparently I should have been told to go very slow with giving her food, etc.

It did take a while for her to act normal, especially with keeping food down. If she isn't a bit improved when she wakes up or you see something really unusual, please don't hesitate to call your vet or an ER vet if necessary.

It may be a good idea to keep her in her carrier all night so she doesn't bang into things while you're sleeping. She should be perfectly fine (and hungry!) tomorrow morning. Just keep an eye on her incision and call the vet if it looks nasty.

Sounds like she's still under the effects of the anesthesia.  Allow her to "sleep it off" and keep an eye on her.  I doubt you'll need to confine her since she's so wobbly.  Kitties are pretty good at self-limiting due to not feeling well.  Be sure she eats and drinks normally, though.

I am yet to see her eating or drinking anything, She's going to the litter box so maybe she's eating and drinking without my knowledge. She's alert and bites me when ever I try to apply ointment to her incision ( as per vets orders). Thank you for feedback guys, I got a lill scared but she's getting better :)

Give her something extra yummy, like a piece of chicken or whatever her favorite treat is. Just so you can actually see her eat something to set your mind at ease.

I have never had to apply anything to a spay incision, so I wouldn't stress if you're unable to apply it.
