When I first got my cat from the animal shelter I had her on dry food as it was what she was on and it was the easiest to buy/get on the short notice with my application being approved much sooner than I anticipated. Now I want to get her on canned food and have a few questions.

What are some good choices available at your average Kroger/Wal-Mart? I live in a small town so options for shopping are limited.

Do I need to gradually introduce it into her diet by giving her a little canned and a little dry? She seems to like the canned stuff I give her once or twice a week but it's of the higher end.

My cat is currently at 7.5 pounds and around 7 months old. How much do I need to give her a day?

Any help is appreciated!

Depends on your budget. At Wal-Mart and Kroger, they (I think) both carry Fancy Feast which is low cost and not bad as wet canned cat food goes.

To transition from dry to wet food, just follow the directions on the can.

When I finally got my cat switched over to wet food, I was going to do 1/4 wet and 3/4 dry for a few days and then do "half and half" until it was all wet.

But, Tiger fooled me. When I opened up the one can of wet canned cat food I was testing him out on, he smelled it and he wanted it.....NOW.....because he was so vocal for it! So, I put one ounce in his bowl and he scarfed it all down and didn't have any vomiting or bowel problems.

So I didn't have to transition my Tiger.

I, too live in a very small town with limited brands to buy. Friskies, pates, Fancy Feast Pates and Sheba pates are fairly good and relatively grain-free. They are also inexpensive and they usually have a decent selection.

Buy one can each of several pate types and let the cat choose which brand she prefers. Then expand the range of flavors in that brand. I buy 9 different pate flavors to keep the ladies from getting fussy.

Since your cat is still a kitten (less than one year old) she can eat as much as she wants, unless she starts getting pudgy.

I welcome you to TCS and invite you to introduce yourself and your kitten in New Cats on the Block. Be sure to post some pictures of your kitten and tell us her name.

Oh, yeah, try to transition her slowly, unless you have a cat like Night Wing's Tiger.

edit. she got her post in about 4 seconds quicker than me.
