I have a 7 week old kitten who I "rescued" from my backyard. He used to have two sisters, who had brain related issues and unfortunately passed away in the last 2 weeks. Now he cries and whines constantly, no matter if he is eating, playing, or lazing about. In the last few days, he has taken up SPITTING at me! I don't want him to hate me, thinking i took his sisters away, am I doing something wrong? He has never spit before, but he straight up charges at me from across the room, stops a few inches short, and spits (or sometimes hisses). Is this normal?

This is certainly not common.  Spitting and hissing in some situations is used yes, but not in exactly this scenario.

How is the story in the rest?  I understand you had him some time?  How was it develping till he began with the spitting?

Had he began to be socialized?

The sisters, did they die outside or you tried to adopt them too?

A trick maybe worth to try is the trick I described in the parallell tread of "Falling in Sever and rescuing from there".

Have googles on so he cant spit in your eyes...

Also, you could try with a Feliway adapter...

Good luck!

He's awfully young - think about what he's gone through. First off, hashe been checked by the vet? This sudden change in behavior worries me a little, especially with what happened to his sisters. If he checks out healthy, he needs a safe, quiet place to acclimate to his new environment. Do you have a room you can leave him in? Leave him alone with his food and potty. Visit him often and always speak softly. Never rush up to him, always move slowly.

Give him some time to get used to his new world and he should be fine. Thank you for helping him!

He has been checked by the vet, I took him in at 2 weeks and one sister died at 4 weeks, the other just 5 days later. I took him in for a second vet visit the day that the second sister passed. He was given some preventative antibiotics, and a nutritional supplement to stimulate growth, which the vet thought May also help ward off any infections he may have been born with. It seems that the mother, who lives with the woman next door, was born with some issues at birth. So whatever the two sisters had, he does not seem to have. Since I've had him for five weeks now, he has stayed almost exclusively in one bedroom, with a few toys, a scratching post, and he enjoys running after a laser pointer! He's been tested for feline Aids virus, leukemia, and worms. Nothing came up. He was a Funny playful kitten until just a few days ago, I'm not so sure that anything changed other than my work schedule, but with the new schedule, my husband is home when I am not, so he has even more attention than before. Maybe he hates that?

OK - the health news is good.  I think you right on target with the change in schedules.  First of all, he's had to get used to a new routine.  Second of all, he may not like the attention he's getting from your husband.  If your husband is playing a little too rough with him, that will have an effect too.  Check on that and urge your husband to leave the kitten alone unless the kitten initiates play.  And then, play nice.

We sometimes don't realize how big and intimidating we can be, especially when we have kittens who are bold and willing to keep coming back for more.

You may want to look into Calming Treats or Composure Treats (both available on Amazon).  Also a Feliway plug-in might help.  These may help him chill a bit until he's used to the new routine.

Thanks for the update!
