I saw a commercial for Wellness food today, and they were boasting about how their food does not contain any GMOs. I had never heard of this, so I looked it up online. These are apparently genetically modified ingredients that are supposed to be bad for pets and humans. I read through the list of GMO foods and found that the food that I feed my cats does have a GMO--canola oil. There are a lot of ingredients that I cannot feed my cats. Is this another one that I have to add to the list? Do I need to be worried about GMOs, specifically canola oil, or is Wellness just trying to sell a product by scaring pet owners?

This is up to you. Some people feel that GMOs are dangerous, others feel that they are the best things ever. We just don't know because they haven't been around very long (well, some genetic modifications have been around a while--like canola and Roundup Ready--and others are newer). But no human has lived a lifetime eating GMOs so we don't know the long-term effects. But also, all non-organic corn and soy are GMO and all non-organic meat animals eat GMO corn and soy so even Wellness is using GMO-fed meat. If that makes an difference :tongue2:.

So Wellness is stretching the truth a bit?

Eh, not really. A food containing meat from animals fed GMOs is not the same as a food containing GMOs, so it's not really stretching the truth. It's just that unless you go all organic GMOs are kind of unavoidable.
