I had my kitty go to the vet and get a dewormer that should work on all kinds. They said that they'd deworm again when I returned in a few weeks (I'm actually thinking of going to a diff. vet but I guess they'd do the same if it takes 2 or so rounds?). Anyway, I was just wondering after reading online about it, if it takes 2-3 rounds then does that mean to expect worms for weeks at a time? I don't know if this means they could just fall out of her randomly or if this is something that will only happen with a bowel movement.

Truth be told, my kitten always covers her poo in clumping litter so I really can't even tell if she's expelling them. Husband said he saw one come out (he believed it to be a tapeworm). I saw a worm in our kitchen last night but have no idea if it came out of her because it didn't look like any images I'd seen. It was alive. I was wondering if it was just a coincidence and a worm that got in my house? Nothing white or offwhite colored like the online images.

So how many rounds does it take and if the vet didn't tell me do I assume the product kills larvae or no? What about eggs? I guess round 2 is for the eggs that hatch?

I'm really grossed out and we're going to stay with family over Thanksgiving. I just don't know if I should expect her to be expelling worms for a while or only the first couple of days after the vet visits.

Thanks.

Due to the life stages of the parasites, it's very common to need 2 or 3 deworming treatments.  We had to have Tumbles dewormed twice and then get a separate dewormer for tapeworms.  Usually, you'll never see the worms unless your kitty is so infested with them.  Then, they usually throw them up (gross!!).

What is your kitten's background? I work for a small rescue and it is normal for us to have to deworm kittens 2, 3 even 4 times, depending on where they came from. *Most* dewormers treat roundworm, hookworm and lungworm. They do not treat tapeworm. Profender (a topical dewormer...much like flea medication) treats a wide variety of parasites, including tapeworm.

Here are the specific Meds that treat tapeworm:
Praziquantel
Fenbendazole
Espiprantal

I've only used the first two.

Tapeworms are white (like rice) and are often seen as segments. Although full worms can be expelled.
