Hi everyone

I have two lovely kittens who are 13weeks old, brother and sister.

The girl is excellent at using her litter box however her brother keeps pooping on the floor. When I first got him he was good, using the litter box all the time, however now he will only go on the floor around the edges of the room.

I currently have feliway plugged in and two litter boxes, the only way I can get him to go is if I catch him scratching around the skirting board and having to pick him up and putting him in his box.

Does anyone have ant suggestions or similar experiences? He hasn't been neutered yet, so isn't going outside.

Thanks!

Hi- Just thoughts here. I have cared for and owned by cats most of my 53 years :) but...they are all unique like people and sometimes its a matter of elimination no pun intended :)--Sometimes kitties like certain litter...I use pellets cuz they are environmentally friendly and easier on my tiles and most of all my HC kitty doesnt do well in clumping litter...Some cats like pellets I think most like the sandy kind...and open litter boxes that are kept clean and free of "turds"..I learned that one should always have one extra litter box besides one for each kitty - never keep litter area close to where kitty drinks water...never keep water close to where kitty eats solid food..kinda like the way cats live in the wild..and of course ruling out medical-Has he been to a vet yet?

So...It could be type of litter- location- how many boxes- open or hooded- and of course I know you keep the boxes scooped regularly- and possibility of illness.... I hope that maybe something I have listed might do the trick....I have a cat that goes to the bathroom...are you ready for this? on the upper level of kitchen counter..looks like a breakfast bar...in a litterbox because she is very nervous...A feral kitty I trapped- spayed- she was pregnant had kittens before that...adopted the kittens out and released her where i trapped her but she continued to cry...when she saw me..so i retrapped her and kept her now for 4 years..she is happy just a scaredy cat..i have 11 total - always adopting out..but the stress of others makes her go on the floor..so I figured it out..put up kitty climbing shelves all over the condo and a litter box high up for her...go figure..:)- Please let me know if you can get him to go in the box at some point. .

Hi there, Thank you so much for your response!

Yes my boy has been to the vets and they have ruled out any kind of medical problem and said it is definitely a behaviour problem. He used to be so good with the litter box but now he literally only goes around the edges of the room, on the laminate floor! He will only go in his box if I can catch him scratching the floor around the skirting boards and I pick him up and put him in the box, but I can't be there all the time to keep an eye on him to do this.

I've read that if you put a few food bowls around the areas where the Kitty is leaving his presents, then he won't continue to do his business there, unfortunately though, he does find somewhere else to eliminate. He will always use the litter box or tray to pee in, but it is only when it comes to pooping he will refuse to go in his box/tray! Very frustrating. I've also tried to change the litter, but he just tried to eat it! So I've had to stick with the wood pellet type, which is what they were brought up using.

I think I'm just going to have to keep trying to catch him before he goes on the floor until he gets neutered, then hopefully he will just go outside!

I am glad you figured out the problem with your kitty, it's much better that she is going in the tray at a height, then finding them on the floor!
