A vet can only diagnose your cat. It could be a host of different things. You'd have to explain more and give more details for us to give advice.

Praying for you, your kitty, and for the doctors and vet techs.  I'm so glad she's getting medical care.  It's very, very common for newly rescued kitties to have parasites and to get an upper respiratory infection when they have come from a shelter.  If it's any consolation to you, in 2005, we adopted Hannah from the local pound.  She spent the first week of her life with us at the vet with a very nasty upper respiratory infection and cat flu.  She pulled through and is the picture of health today.  It took a good 2 months for her to completely get over everything, but she's a trooper.  Several months after her initial trip to the vet, they told me they didn't think she'd survive that first night that's how bad off she was.  I'm thankful they didn't tell me that earlier!!

It will take a lot of time for your kitty to feel better, but with lots of patience, TLC, and a steady supply of food, she'll flourish.  One thing to know, kitties will pick up on your stress, so try to be as calm and collected as possible.  Are you going to visit her while she's at the vet's?  That might help her feel better, too.

Feline distemper is possible.  Coronavirus is also a possibility.  There are actually lots of possibles, unfortunately.  Just make sure they keep her hydrated, if its a virus all you can do is provide supportive treatment and hope for the best.   Sending you the very best of wishes and positive thoughts.  Ive got a critically sick kitty right now too, its horrible to watch them suffer, you feel so helpless.   But she is very lucky you came into her life to try and get her through this.  I hope they figure out what she has soon, and I hope it is nothing too horrible.

Glad the vet is on top of things and has found out what's causing the illness.  Praying your little one recovers quickly so she can come back home where she belongs!
