I have a 6 month old kitten.

I havent seen her eat or drink water in the past 2 days.  (her food bowl that i was having to fill every other day is still full, same for her water)

She threw up a few times the first day (no diet changes for the past 2 weeks)

she still plays and runs around, Her eyes are normal, and skin seems to be fine, ive tried giving her treats and wet food and she doesnt even touch them.

I just finished getting her all of her shots and full check up at the Vet less than a week and a half ago.

I caught her laying in her litter box for the first time as well as she seems more secluded than normal.

I dont know how long to wait before taking her back to the vet, is it ok to "force" her to drink by squirting water down her throat with a syringe?

Please, any pro-cat advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

To check for dehydration, pinch a bit of her skin along her back, but not at the scruff. It should spring immediately back into place. The longer it takes, the more dehydrated the cat is. If the skin stays tented, it is an emergency and she needs to go to the vets for fluids.

Also, her gums should be healthy and pink, not pale light pink or white.

It sounds like she isn't feeling well, so a trip to the vet would be a good idea. Cats can quickly develop liver problems from not eating. This can happen in just a couple of days. And, of course, dehydration is very dangerous.

If you do decide to syringe feed/water her, do not squirt it down her throat. She could aspirate (inhale it into her lungs). Push the food or water slowly into the cheek pouch. Also, if she is just a bit dehydrated, you can add Pedialyte to the water, or in a pinch, a bit of Gatorade.

To possibly stimulate her appetite, try feeding her canned food with some extra water mixed in before resorting to syringe feeding. It may appeal to her, plus canned cat food contains a lot of moisture. Baby food with meat as the only ingredient works sometimes, too.

First, please do NOT squirt water DOWN her throat. This can cause serious problems. You can syringe feed both water and blended pate type foods, but it must be done in the side of the mouth, so that she can swallow it on her own.

A question about the timeline - so she got her shots a week and a half ago, was eating and drinking normally since then, but two days ago she suddenly threw up several times, stopped eating and drinking and started lying in the litter box? If so, I would take her back to the vet ASAP. While it could be a reaction to the vaccines, the timing doesn't sound right. She could have an obstruction. Cats cannot go long without food as they are at risk of developing fatty liver disease. She is also probably dehydrated by now.

Not eating, not drinking and secluding herself are huge red flags! She needs to be taken to the vet. Cats can develop hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) within 48 hours of not eating. She could be having a bad reaction to one of the shots she received, or it could be something else serious. Please do not wait. If she doesn't start eating on her own soon, she'll need to be assist-fed.

If she hasn't eaten or drank any water in the past 2 days then she needs to see a vet right away. Not eating for an extended period of time will cause liver damage. Has she been sneezing at all, how do her eyes look? Has she been using her litter box?

You need to be very careful about syringing food or water into her mouth, so that you don't get any in her lungs. At this point if it was my cat I would be taking her into the emergency vet tonight.

If you do want to try to get her to eat something, the first thing I would suggest trying is warming up some canned food, warmed up it will get really smelly and if the cat is having difficulty smelling she might be able to smell this. A good choice would be fancy feast, nice and smelly and some folks refer to it as kitty crack, most cats usually will not turn their nose up at it. When warming make sure not to make it too hot 5-10 seconds should be all that is needed. Also stir the food up some before offering in case their is any hot spots. Also the gerber baby meat foods work well, just the plain meat that has nothing added to it. A lot of people add some water to it to make a soup. This should not be fed exclusively, since it doesn't have everything that a cat needs, but to encourage eating works in a pinch.

That being said I really do urge you to get your cat into a vet right away, with not eating or drinking I am guessing that she is staring to become dehydrated, if not so already.

OK, i will take her to the vet as soon as i can tomorrow, To clarify when i said down her throat i meant into her cheek pocket ( i apologize about the misnomer).  Her skin still has elasticity, it snaps right back into place. I just attempted the heated fancy feast to no avail she shows no interest at all. I Empties her litter box this morning and there were no signs of diarrhea or anything, but also havent had her use it yet today. My main goal is to get her through the night so i can take her to the vet tomorrow. Thank you all for your quick and concise feedback.
