ok guys i got a kitten named clark when he was 8 weeks old. he was so hyper and basically used me as his chew toy lol. so i decided to get him a play mate. When i went to get another i came home with two lol. a month later one of the brothers came down with nuerological problems and wouldnt eat at all. i took him to the vet and they couldnt even take blood cuz they couldnt find a vein because he was so week. So he passed away. today being a month since then and his brother isnt as active as he use to. he use to play alot with clark and would defend himself lol. now all he does is looks sluggish while sleeping. he eats and drinks but then he hides under the blanket. hes very obsessed with me. he has to be on me and around me. he has to sleep under the covers where i cam. he doesnt even clean himself as much. hes about 6 months old now and could it just be that hes getn older and hes lazy? his third eye lid is showing just a little. also on the other hand clark is still running around like crazy and bouncing off the walls . please help!!! i dont want my other kitty to die, but also i am struggling to pay my first vet bill :(

Welcome to the forum. Have you noticed any other signs with your kitten? Any sneezing, coughing, discharge from the eyes? When did you notice that the third eye lid started showing, does it show all the time. At 6 months of age kittens are still very active, is he playing still with the other cat, or is he only sleeping all the time? Have you noticed how his litter box habits are?

If you haven't already I would suggest to at least call your vet and describe to them what you are seeing. They can advise you if your kitten needs to be seen. When it comes to my cats I do tend to follow my gut, I am going to know my cats best and will be the first in most cases to notice a change.

As for the wanting to be around you and on you, that is not so unusal. I have a cat that likes to snuggle under the blankets with me. My other cats like to take turns who sleeps by mommy. Right now my 13 year old is curled up next to my side on the couch and the kittens are streched out at the end of the couch. Given some time they will change their positions and I can expect at least one if not both of them either right up next to me or on me. At night I can expect at least one of the four sleeping with me and usually the others are close by in the same room.

He seems to eat and drink but he does respond to much. He doesnt play only defends himself if the other cat is bothering him so much that he has to step in. He does lool to b sleeping alot. My fiance said maybe hes depressed from losing his brother and also we got a puppy. Usually when I dangle a treat in the air he goes nuts. Only the other kitten does. The third eyelid and sleeping is the only common characteristic common with his last away brother. The original mother had a clean bill of healthand her shots so idk whats up...hope things dont stay this way

My best suggestion would be to call your vet and explain the symptoms that you are seeing. See what they have to say and if he should be checked out. It is not normal to see the third eyelid on a healthy cat, and is a good indicator that something is going on.

how do u guys feel aboutthis that i read?

People aren’t the only ones who get the blues — cats can suffer from depression too.

Behaviorists first recognized depression in cats in the 1990s, and felines can become depressed for several reasons.

A major disruption such as moving, adding or losing a family member or a change in schedule can trigger it. If a cat’s owner is going through a stressful time, the animal could also mimic that unhappy behavior.

Depression symptoms

A depressed kitty can exhibit a variety of symptoms, but one of the main indicators of depression or other illness is loss of appetite. If your feline leaves food untouched — especially for more than a day — you should consult your veterinarian.

Additional signs of feline depression include the following:

  • Loss of interest in playtime

  • Lack of grooming

  • Signs of lethargy or changes in personality

  • Aggression

  • Increased sleeping

  • Hiding in an isolated place or rarely used room
However, keep in mind that these symptoms could also indicate a number of other medical conditions.

While cats can get depressed, the third eyelid showing is usually a sign that something is wrong physically. It doesn't indicate what or where, but it usually means something is off somewhere. Depression alone would not cause that.

I second calling the vet and describing the symptoms, explaining that he is the brother of the one that died and asking if it's likely that he has the same problem his brother did.

I don't know. Was what his brother had something that would show up in bloodwork? I would get an exam first and see what the vet thinks. It may be something totally unrelated and easily treatable.

The brother case was dismissed cuz they couldnt find out. And he had neurological problems. Now for this kitty he eats wet food more and just isnt active. And a lil third eye showing. Maybe its normal for it to show just a little? Or I read online that if a cat is sleeping alot it might show a little? Could he just b depressed and sleeping so thats why its showing. Im post a pic
