About 10:30 PM Kenai was outside and we heard this horrible yelp! She comes scooting in through the dog door, tail tucked and wet and YIKES! She got sprayed by our resident skunk!! She got bathed in tomato juice 3 times before she finally lost some of the stench. God I love living in the country! LOL

I didn't know tomatoe juice actually worked! I thought it was just an old wives tale.

Yup, that works. We had to do it to our german sheppard when I was a kid. It took a few times but it did get rid of some of the stench. I'm glad Kenai will be okay.

I can't say Ew because I have never smelt a skunk! But from movies etc etc, It sounds like it smells pretty bad!

Poor Kenai!

Is Kenai still a puppy? My sister's dog got sprayed too but only because she was a very curious pup. I don't think it will happen again!

You think after all this time, the skunk would be used to all of you and chill out already!

Poor Kenai!

Ewwwwwwww. I thought someone said Vodka worked better than tomatoe juice.

Glad the smell is moderated. I have a bad aversion to skunk smell...lol

Poor Kenai, but hopefully she learned her lesson. (And poor Hissy for having to smell the skunk while washing it off!)

Be thankful - it is a NASTY smell, and very overpowering.

The Vodka is for the person doing the washing! Adding vinegar to the wash can help too.

Skunks are funny little critters. Even the animals with the scent glands removed still smell bad, but they can be quite charming.

Ewwwwww..the only thing worse than skunk smell on your dog is your dog whose been sprayed, getting wet bringing up that lingering skunk smell...my poor doxie when I was a kid, got sprayed when we were at summer camp (my mom was a camp counselor so could bring the dog).

You weren't planning on a quiet, dull day were you <wicked chuckle>?

We thought the skunk was gone! There was yet another dead one on the road the other morning quite near the house. We thought it was ours. This just leads me to ask HOW MANY SKUNKS DO WE HAVE HERE?

And there was no way I was going to bathe my dog in vodka! LOL She would have been drunk before the end of the bath! Or I would have been. Besides, I didn't have any and the liquor stores close here at 10:00 p.m.

You just got skunked a few weeks ago! That's terrible! Skunks are very bad in my neck of the woods this year - one got our neighbors dog (who was over hunting the ferals by my garage) the other night and I have never been happier for that dog.

I saw some skunk deodorizing shampoo at our vets the other day - have you ever tried anything like that?

I remember when I first smelled a skunk, it reminded me of burning tyres (tires) and so I am not too bothered by it. I don't know why
post #19 of 23
Poor Kenai!!!!! Hissy, I remember your post telling us about the time you got sprayed, and it seems like it wasn't very long ago when one of your cats got sprayed.

I'm starting to wonder who's next. And I sure hope for your sake that it won't be Mike !!!! Eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!

Last year I walked outside and saw something run under my truck and came back out the other side.I thought it was a cat until I smelled it.The skunk must have just been sitting near my truck and I scared it when I came outside and it just HAD to spray as it was running under my truck. The inside of my truck smelled like skunk for weeks.

I think I would have had it towed off and burned.
