Hey all, I have just joined the site after finding a lot of stuff on here vey useful. But one thing that I am wondering / worrying about is the fact that I have just got a 7 week old kitten two days ago and also a 9 week old puppy 4 days ago. I know they are both extremely young and hopefully will grow up together and be great friends but I am just looking for any advice on how to start integrating them. The kitten sleeps in my bedroom and has yet to venture out of the room as yet. I am just looking for any ideas on what is the best way to introduce them to each other so they grow up together and become comfortable with each other?

Being THAT young, it's the puppy you have to protect from being hurt by those sharp claws! The kitten is going to spit and arch and get all excited, but I would bet within a week they'll get along a lot better. If the Puppy is a lot bigger, watch that he doesn't jump on the cat. I would bring the puppy to the kitten's space and kinda hold him at first until the kitten gets used to him. The kitten will most likely watch the puppy for a while, it will take time for both of them. Let the kitten sit up in a place where the puppy can't get at him. Take it slow, keep one of them close at first, and I'll bet you won't have much of a problem Please keep us posted!

Thank you very much for the reply, That is very reassuring! I actually introduced them to each other again today, also allowing the kitten to explore the rest of the house ( except the dogs bedroom ) and they both seemed to be at easy.. While they were in the same room together the kitten was on the kitchen work surface and the dog on the floor, it was relatively unexciting with the end result being both of them falling asleep.. I'm glad that none of them seemed extremely uneasy towards the other. I will definitely keep you posted on how things turn out!

Update on the kitten and puppy situation.. They've met each other a handful of times and they've been playing, chasing each other etc but it always ends up with the dog getting too excited and rough, he's only 10 weeks old but he's absolutely giant for his age. I'll keep introducing them to each other and hopefully after a few weeks, my 8 week old Claude will be able to handle himself a bit better!
