Hi my name is Cheryl

I have 2 seventeen month old grey tabbies, both female. Bennie has always been slower than her sister both cognitively and physically. Bennie had her first booster for FVRCP at about 6 months. Both cats are indoor cats and were abandoned at 3 weeks of age, I have no history for them as they were dumped.

Bennie got her 1st rabies and second FVRCP at a shot clinic by a Vet I am familiar with. She immediately began throwing up without relief for approximately 30 minutes. She was taken back to the shot clinic and was given Benadryl and Steroids for possible allergic reaction.

Bennie became extremely lethargic but that is improving, she is however still somnolent  and having difficulty with coordination, she can no longer jump up on to the counter or other objects without difficulty. These symptoms are of new onset.

She will going to the vet this week but I want some direction. Local vets here will charge exhorbent fees for simple work ups. She has no fever, is drinking and eating with normal defecation.

Her sister Jet (named appropriately) did not have the shots at the clinic, she went to vet's office after the experience with Bennie. Jet was vaccinated at the vets for rabies and FVRCP without incidence.

Thank you for reading this post. Any insight you can provided is sincerely appreciated.

Lastly neither cat has been tested or vaccinated for feline leukemia since they were mostly likely feral until rescued and are indoor cats.

Which type of vaccine was used? Adjuvanted or non-adjuvanted? Here is what one vet has to say about the difference between the two. http://www.catinfo.org/?link=vaccines

A certain amount of lethargy is to be expected after vaccines, but the immediate and continuous vomiting does sound like a fairly strong reaction. It's hard to say how much of her current condition is due to the vaccines and how much to the Benadryl/steroids. How long has it been since the vaccinations?

Thank you for the reply,

It's actually been two weeks, she vomited and had a more severe reaction than expected. Was initially fine after the Benadryl and steroids were given, sleepy the next couple days.

We went out of town a week after her vaccinations were given and she was boarded for 4 days. Upon return she did nothing but slept for 2 days only waking to eat and drink.

She is more active as the days pass, the difficulty with coordination is my biggest concern and lack of play. This was a 17 month old cat that flew through the house a million miles an hour, now if she jumps up she misses her mark and falls back down.

I have searched high and low for answers......kidney disease, onset of actual distemper, feline leukemia, nothing really describes what I am seeing.

I guess blood test for anemia and white blood cell count is next.

Again thank you for the reply
