Hi Mani, Thank you for the welcome!

Kitkat is a silly snuggle bug. He loves nothing more than to be next to people and cuddle. It can get a little uncomfortable but there's nothing like a cat that wants to be with you. :)

Snowflake on the other hand, is a little more cautious with who he shows affection to, but once he does, the nudging and purrs don't stop.

I've been lurking around the forums reading up on different topics especially raw feeding and I decided to join in hope that someone will be able to help me out with a few questions I have in the near future.

Hope to learn more from everyone around here!

Hello, I'd like to share a little more on my cats.

I used to have a birman look-a-like that my sister adopted from one of

the cat shelters in Singapore. It was a big house with cats running

everywhere. They were well taken care of though and there were many

beautiful cats.

One day, my sister decided to adopt a cat and she came home with

Saffy, named for her beautiful blue eyes. We were told she was a

birman but she didn't really look like one. They couldn't tell us her

age but estimated she was about 4 years old.

We had her for a few years and then I moved out of the house, leaving

her with the rest of the family. When they decided to move out of

their home, they couldn't take Saffy along with them and by then she

was starting to fall sick. She started sneezing and having lots of

discharge from her nose. They took her to the vet and they said she

had asthma and pneumonia. She had to be hooked up to a machine and had

to be injected twice a day with medication.

I brought her home with me and I started to care for her. I started to

read up more on cats and I started feeding her canned food

exclusively. Before that she used to be on dry and the occasional wet

food but I realised it wasn't helping her. After switching her diet to

grain free wet food, she seemed to get healthier, she was playing

more, her fur got so soft. This was within a few months of giving her

a better diet.

One day, I got home from work and decided to give Saffy a bath. I

started running warm water and once I was done, I went to look for

her. Usually when I called her name, she'd come running but she

didn't. I found her lying under my bed. I thought she was sleeping so

I touched her and her whole body was stiff. I kept shaking her and

asking her to wake up and not to scare me but she didn't stir. I

called my sister and told her that Saffy had died and I couldn't stop

crying. She rushed over and we decided that we had to get her

cremated. She passed away aged approximately 9-10 years old and the

only consolation was hoping that she enjoyed the last few years of her

life with me.

Saffy's death hit me really hard and I spent the next few weeks

feeling very empty, like there was something missing in my life. I

decided to adopt a cat of my own and to give it the best care I could.

I told my sister about it and we spent the next few months looking for

a cat. We called a few places and visited many adoption websites but

nothing really felt right. I came across a post in one of the pet

forums, seeking a new home for a 1 year old cat. The ad didn't have

many details, it only had the cat's age and that the owner was moving

frequently and could not care for the cat any longer. I had a strong

feeling that we should contact the person even though there were no

other details or pictures and the lady asked if we'd like to view the

cat on the weekend.

When we saw the cat, we had a shock, it was a beautiful cat and he

took to us immediately, rubbing his face and wrapping his tail around

us. He was so playful and my heart just melted. The lady said we could

take him home that day because she had many people come over to view

but she didn't feel right giving him to them but when she saw how he

interacted with us and how we had gone through the screening process,

she felt we should be the ones for him. I arranged to have him picked

up in a few days and she gave me his pedigree certificate. Before

that, I had no idea what the difference was between a pedigree and a

DLH. I asked her if she was expecting any adoption fee which was the

norm for any pet adoptions let alone one which is registered but she

said she didn't, she just wants him to have a good home and to be

updated on how he is every now and then. I felt like the luckiest

person! This was how I got to adopt Snowflake.

A year later, I decided I should find Snowflake a companion, someone

he can spend time with while I'm out of the house. I started to look

for another cat. I came across a cat rescuer who rescued a pair of

cats used for breeding and the female was found to be pregnant. (The

cats were locked in cages with no space to roam and they were

supposedly orientals and scottish fold cats. It was a sigh to see, the

cats were improperly bred and the breeder was selling them as mixed

breed kittens for a high fee.) The rescuer put up the kittens of

adoption when they were 2 months old and I enquired about them. I

visited them and settled on the friendlier kitten which was male. This

is how Kitkat came to join me and Snowflake.

Although the both of them don't cuddle up and sleep together as much

as I'd like them to, I can't imagine life now without the both of

them. They've made me happy and helped me when I had periods of

depression. I knew they needed me as much as I needed them. I am

thankful for what they bring to my life. I'll settle with the daily

play fight sessions that goes on the whole day, I'll settle with

preparing raw food for them even though I'm squeamish about handling

meat (I'm a vegetarian.) I wouldn't change anything from what it is

now.

Sorry about the super long post, just wanted to share my story.

Here are some pictures!

Those pictures are of Saffy.

Here is a picture of Snowflake and Kitkat pretending to he good boys after chasing each other around the house.

That's a lovely story.. thank you for sharing.

My two cats don't cuddle either.. they play fight and pretend they don't like each other, but it's more of a sibling thing (not that they're actually brother and sister).  I think they'd be lost without each other, and Snowflake and Kitkat are probably the same.

They're a gorgeous pair.
