My 5 month old kitten was spayed on Wednesday and by Saturday she had ripped her stitches out and the incision is completely open. I've been keeping an eye on it and have recently put Neosporin and a band aid on her because I believed it was becoming infected. She is acting completely normal, eating, drinking, etc and is not messing with the incision site anymore. I'm just trying to make sure that this is not an immediate emergency or if it can wait another 12 hours or so considering there is not place within a couple hours that is 24 hours. I'm going to take her back to the clinic she was spayed and see what they can do. Is there any advice about what I can do tonight or what I should expect tomorrow? Thanks.

I have a few pictures. They're not the best. It is hard to tell, but the wound is open all the way down, not just the ends.

It does not look like an acute emergenyc, nothing is bulging out of the incision.  The inner stitches are holding, it is just the outer skin sutures that she removed, and there is no obvious infection.  She should be just fine to wait to see your own vet in the morning.  Don't even put any more  neosporin on as that will just make her lick the area more.

Well there is some yellow puss on the inside. It is not "oozing" out but there is some on the inside.

She definitely needs to see the vet but it can wait until morning.  The vet will probably put her on an antibiotic to get rid of the infection.  They may have to put her under and restitch her, or they might just use surgical glue.  If you want to put ,ore neosporin on, it probably wouldn't hurt, but it may make her lick more which you do not want.  She should be just fine overnight though.

Good for you for watching her incision!  I agree it's not an emergency and can wait until Monday, but please cut those handles on that plastic bag so she doesn't strangle herself, especially if she plays with that when you're not home to supervise her.

Okay, if they put her on anesthetics, should I take away her food tonight just in case, or should she be fine?

Thank you for the help!

I doubt they'll try to put stitches in again.  They'll probably try the glue and give you a cone.

No worries, she was just playing with it when I got home from the store with a few groceries and then I threw it away when she was done :)

And okay, thanks for all the help !
