My fiance and I are thinking of adopting a couple of kittens whose mother appears to be a rumpy Cymric. I say "appears to" because she doesn't have papers or anything. The kittens are of... uh.. uncertain parentage. (The mother is an outdoor cat.)

The two that we are considering have tails, although one of their siblings has just a short stump. My question is about whether these tailed kittens should have their tails docked. I've read that tailed Cymrics often get arthritis.

Any insights appreciated.

So far out in left field I got lost
I am not a breeder so I may be just answering this question wrong. If you dock these tailed kittens wouldn't it be really painful for them and also what would it do to stop arthritis if they have that trait anyway?

It seems to me that if they already have the trait that would cause them to have arthritis cutting their tails off would not do anything to prevent the arthritis from forming anyway. IMO

Several years ago, Sandie and I rescued 2 Manx from a breeder who was going to put them down because they were born with tails. They are wonderfull, with absolutely no problems of any kind. I wouldn't do a thing to them save for loving them and making them happy.
