November 9th is World Pastry Day and we thought we needed to celebrate such a special occasion here on TCS!

How do you participate? Is is as simple as talking about pastry in this thread.

The rules:

  • Each post to the thread must start with the name of an actual pastry.
  • It can be sweet or savory, any flavor welcome. Unless it's something very common, please add a few words to describe the pastry, so we know what it actually is.
  • Try not to repeat a pastry that's been mentioned before. We won't be enforcing this one, but do make an effort - it'll be more fun! Different flavors count. So, a blueberry muffin we consider to be different entry from a chocolate muffin.
  • No imaginary pastries. It doesn't have to be something you actually made or had yourself, but it has to be a real pastry.
  • Feel free to elaborate! Add recipes, pictures, stories or anything related to pastries. Everything is welcome as long as your post starts with the name of a pastry.
  • No consecutive posts by the same member please. We don't want this to turn into a monologue!

At the end of the contest on November 10th, we'll run a draw for a post number and the winner will get the prize, as long as their post meets the contest criteria. Forgot to mention a pastry? Too bad! You won't be eligible for the prize and we'll move on to find another winning post. So, make sure you begin your post with the name of a pastry!

So what are the prizes?

One lucky winner will be getting a -

$30 Amazon voucher to buy your favorite cat-shaped cookie cutters (or anything else you want!)

A TCS Tote Bag worth $15!

A TCS Bumper Sticker worth $4!

A TCS Premium Membership for six months, worth $33!

That's a total of $82 in total prize value!

So go ahead and chit chat to your heart's content in this thread, just don't forget to mention the name of a pastry at the beginning of each of your post! It could be worth you $82 in prizes!

Please tell us about your day, your life, or anything else on your mind, just start with the name of a pastry. Let's call it Pastry Babble. ;).

Let's get this started!!!!

Banana Bread - That's what is in my oven right now. I don't bake as much as I used to, but I had two old bananas on the kitchen counter and it sounded like a good idea. :D

Cinnamon rolls.  Now that it's just me I don't make them very often, only when there will be other people to eat them as well.

Bourekas. That's a Turkish/Mideastern savory pastry that my kids really missed while we were traveling in the US
And now that we have the pastry out of the way, I just wanted to say it's fine to talk about anything in this thread. Consider this a Babble thread with a twist. You just have to make sure you mention a pastry in the first line

Pumpkin muffins. I have a few in the freezer right now. :).

What's everyone up to today? I am currently watching my fantasy football team lose miserably.

Cream puffs! The best I've ever had were from a cafeteria in Hungary. They use lots of whipping cream there!

Today had been one of those days without enough hours to it. Term break is over, and I dread having to get up really early tomorrow, not to mention all the tests this week I'll have to mark.

I'll see you your pumpkin muffins and raise you some apple dumplings for the freezer!

Back here cleaning out my desk....what a mess it is right now. Rick did his this morning.

Anybody have The Red Zone on your cable TV? I got it for Rick for Christmas this year. Any time a pro football team gets within (I think it is) 10 yards of the goal line, TRZ channel automatically kicks over to that game. That way, Rick gets to see the touchdown attempts, but doesn't have to sit through the miserable Eagles games (poor Rick and his Eagles). Right now, he's outside, pruning the weigela bushes out back.

Oh cream puffs! I make some awesome strawberry cream puffs! And some good chocolate cream puffs, too! Those ones from Hungary sound decadent!

Entenmann's cream cheese coffee cake.... has got to be on the top of my list for "decadent desserts"! It's got a crumbled powdered sugar topping all over the outside & it just melts in your mouth!
Unfortunately, there's very few desserts I can eat these days cuz almost every one contains soybean oil in some form, & I'm allergic.... :(

Galettes, the type that we make comes from my great grandmother who was born in Belgium. A butter cookie that is made with a special iron that sits on the stove top. They are pretty time consuming to make but they are delicious.

Love the Entenmanns coffe cakes myself, one of those doesn't last the day. Just hate how expensive they have gotten.

Fresh apple cake. I am thinking of it right now because I have bunches of mountain apples to use up.

Stopped at the grocery store and ate in their restaurant on the way home from church. Been just chilling out and trying to get Muffin interested in some food.

Doughnuts from the cider mill, taste great when they are fresh with a glass of cider. Never did make it to any of the cider mills this year. Fresh cider does sound good, might need to pick up a half gallon at the store.

Strawberry Smoothy Cheesecake Tarts! These are devine AND pretty lol. Made this one up myself ona very boring afternoon.

Use whatever pastry recipe you prefe to make your tart base with.

Then combine mashed strawberries, strawberry jello, cream cheese, and whipped cream. Refrigerate until still. Fill tarts 3/4 full. Add whipped cream. Slice and fan open a strawberry and add to the top.

Should look something like this but without the chocolate base... didn't have my own pic.

I saw a bakery who had a Black Forest cake (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte in Germanon their display. It's awesome because I've never seen that particular cake here before.

One pastry per post, so by the end we'll have 500+ different pastries? Needs to be made into a list! :D

Lamingtons... little sponge squares covered in chocolate icing and rolled in coconut.  Very useful for constructing kid's and big kid's cakes.  An architect friend of mind once did a very impressive The Arc de Triomphe out of lammos, using the coconut to form the decorative bits.
