I brought a shy cat and she apparently has flea! I actually found that out about 7 weeks after I brought her. She is a shy cat, who does not let me touch or hold, and she is a black cat, so I was not able to find if she has flea until later, I saw bunch of flea dirt around the area she used to stay.

Anyway, last week (exactly 7 days ago), we put a flea treatment (Advantage) behind her neck. I got a help from someone, who put a medicine for me.

Anyway, now, I see that she scratches less than usual, which is a good sign for her, but fleas are infested everywhere in my apartment! I mean I was sitting down on my couch yesterday, and I saw that fleas were jumping into my ankle, clothes, and so on. I did crazy cleaning yesterday, vacuumed everywhere and threw away dirt immediately, spray hidden area (like under the couch), and did laundry! But after an hour, fleas are all back! They are trying to crawl up my skin to eat blood, and oh my, it drives me crazy!

For me, it looks like they (Fleas) are migrating from my cat's fur to my carpet or something in order to survive. I saw some dead one on her bed (I vacuum everyday), and even in her water. Is that how it usually goes? Is it a sign of getting worse?

Also, my cat used to stay in my closet (not anymore), so I am afraid all my clothes are infested with fleas. I am thinking about going apartment office and asked for pest control. Has anyone experienced this? Do you think pest control works out?

I am new to all this since this is my first cat, and I am so desperate right now. Can anyone please help me? Thank you so much.

Oh and yes, I still can't comb her hair or give a shower to her. She is still scared of all, and seriously, putting a medicine in her skin was the hardest task ever for me.

She needs to have a de-flea medication applied to her that you can get from your vet.  Do not use ANY over the counter flea meds on her as those are often lethal.  You can sprinkle food grade Diatomaceous Earth (a powder bug killer found at feed stores and organic plant nurseries) on your flooring or carpeting.  Let it sit overnight and then vacuum it up.

I had a bad flea problem a few years ago, i went to the vet and my cat had to be treated there, i also bought a special flea spray from the vet which worked extremely well, you spray it on all of the fabrics in your home. The fleas were gone within a week or so. Its worth paying the money to get the good stuff from the vet.

If you are seeing dead fleas that's a good sign, it means that the Advantage is working.

Treat the cat with a topical flea killer (you already did that)

Buy some flea powder or FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth (DO NOT get pool grade) and sprinkle it on your furniture, floors, and pet beds, as Stephanietx said, let it sit over night if possible.  I do realize you may not be able to do so with your bed, but let it sit as long as possible.

Buy a flea collar, you might want to buy a few, cut it up and put it in your vacuums bags or canister,   Vacuum everywhere,  making sure to use the crevice tool to get along the baseboards and in corners.  Vacuum all your furniture, basically it it'll hold still vacuum it.

Wash your bedding and if you can the cats bed.

Repeat the vacuuming every week or two for at least two months, and treat the cat once a month for at least two months, so that any hatching fleas are killed before they can reproduce.
