Hi all,

Recently I captured a 5 week old stray kitten that has been hanging around my apartment building.

My partner and I set him up in our spare bathroom with bedding and a nightlight, kitten food and water. We also checked on him every 4 hours and offered kitten Milk replacement to ensure he was eating something (he was really picking at the solid food).

The bathroom he was in was secure, but this morning there is no trace whatsoever of him when I went in to check on him. I fear he somehow snuck under the door, despite it being completely flush with the carpet. We have looked in every place we can think of but cant locate him. I know he is in the house, as all my doors leading outside are tightly secured.

Can people offer any advice as to what to do? I'm worried he wont get enough to eat, or has gotten stuck somewhere. He hasn't meowed since we caught him, so I cant rely on him making noise to locate him :C
I havent located any kitten poop around the house, and my pet cat seems indifferent (usually he would be yeowling that he found something).

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

If the door is that flush with the carpet, I don't imagine he got out. More than likely he is still in the bathroom. Kittens are excellent at hiding. As I'm sure you have checked everywhere you can think in the bathroom, make sure to check up inside any cabinets (in the very top) or behind any drawers. Check places you think he couldn't possibly be.

If he did get out, he may have gotten up inside a couch, bed or chair. Or inside/behind cabinets, drawers, etc...

Keep us updated on the search.

Also get down on his level... I mean, seriously, put your face (cheek) onto the floor and look around. In my bathroom there are openings BENEATH my cabinets that are not at all obvious, even with a more than casual search... you gotta see what he sees. If it is a large enough opening, maybe it leads inside of a wall???

Nasty thing to do, I know, but maybe it will help to find him.

Hey everyone, thanks for the advice, after tearing apart the house and despairing, I waited til it got dark and played some audio files of mewling kittens. He started crying back and I managed to find him in a gap beneath the base of the sink I didnt even see was there at first pass!

Little guy is a bit hungry but other than he is a-okay. Thanks again for the help :)

Great. Was it a gap only visible from kitten level, eh? Regardless - what a creative solution.
