My cat, a two-year-old DSH neutered male, had symptoms for two days of distressing hacking, trouble breathing, etc. Sent video to vet, and he said it looks exactly like asthma/bronchitis. Otto (cat) is scheduled for chest x-rays/blood count today, to rule out infection, but for the past day and a half he hasn't had any symptoms, has seemed happy, etc.

My question is: Should I wait to see if symptoms present again over the weekend, before having xrays, etc? Is it possible it was an acute allergic reaction (well, spread over a couple of days)? Or should we just go ahead and get stuff done?

Thanks!

What did you decide to do? How is Otto doing? If you're still trying to decide, I would say get the tests done since the symptoms seem pretty severe. I know for my own peace of mind I would want to get a diagnosis.

Thank you for replying! Otto hasn't had an 'episode' since last Tuesday, so I'm hoping that it was some weird allergy attack. I was fully ready to bring him in, but the vet said I could wait and see how he did over the weekend. Luckily, he was fine. If he does it again, we'll certainly get xrays, etc. But doesn't seem likely that it's an infection--or, the infection has gone! Hoping he doesn't have asthma/chronic bronchitis, either...It was pretty awful watching him cough. :(

Thanks again for asking about him. :)
