Hello i have been looking online all night to try to find a answer why my very healthy 10 year old cat suddenly died last night.. We were handing candy out to the trick or treaters and like always Shera (the cat ) would always be at what ever part of the house we are in . she was perfectly find playing and tootling around when out of no where my husband looked over at her and saw her fall over we ran to her side and with in less than 5 minutes she was dead,  no signes of illness,or any issues of any kind!!!!   She was just at the vet a few months ago in great health no history of anything...??????  we didnt have any time to scoop her up and take her to the hospital it was so fast and came out of no where. i read your story and wanted to know if you got any answers? none of this makes since to me ? We are just so sick about it

My condolences, it's hard enough to lose our babies without having the anguish of not knowing why. Please place a thread in 'Crossing the Bridge' section so others can mourn her too. It may be comforting to know she was happy right up to the end, it doesn't sound like she suffered. I'm so glad you were there to comfort her, even though it was so hard for you. It sounds like a heart related problem for it to be so sudden, with no symptoms of sickness. A poison or choking would have caused great distress and gagging. Don't be hard on yourselves, there is no way of knowing anything about something like this, especially with no symptoms. Even if she was slowing down, you may have thought it was her getting older. Please carry her in you heart, she was greatly loved and I'm sure she felt and knew it. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but know we're here to share your sorrow and to help in any way we can. RIP beautiful Shera, wait for your mommy and daddy at the Rainbow Bridge!

The only way to know for sure is to take the body to the vet for a necropsy. Otherwise, we can only guess. Perhaps a blood clot or sudden heart failure.

Sorry for your loss :(. It's so hard when it's sudden like that.

there could be a couple reasons why your poor cat died so suddenly. a big reason and the most common is cardiomyopathy or heart disease. it's often undetected by vets who just listen to the heart because the heart can sound normal but could be detected through an ultrasound. another reason could of been a blood clot. if you want to know for sure, you could ask for an autopsy and hopefully the vet would find a reason for this tragic event. i'm so sorry for your loss

I am so sorry for the loss of your cat, as others mentioned, my thought with it being sudden is that it was heart related. About 7 years ago we had a 8 year old cat who one day was fine and the next morning we found him unable to get up and back paws cold. Took him to the emergency vet who said he threw a clot, which was formed from a genetic heart defect. Over his 8 years he had been to the vets and before this they had never heard a heart mumur. As devestating as this is for your family, I do hope that you can find in comfort that from your description your beloved cat did not suffer.

I'm sorry but I answered you on your thread in Cat Health where you were originally on a thread from 6/06/11. I just wanted you to know I do care, and I'm thinking and praying for you. I'm glad to see you moved your thread to it's own spot.  Take care of yourselves, and God bless.
