I am so distraught and can't stop crying ever since it happened the guilt is so overwhelming. Last night my 8yr old male cat Garfield must've jumped in my dryer as I was putting clothes in it. After a while I went to check on the clothes and was horrified to discover my baby was in there. I have so much guilt I love him so much and to know I caused death is just heart wrenching .I don't know if i'll ever get over the quilt .

I'm so very sorry you have to go through this guilt, it's so terribly heartbreaking.I'm crying as I answer this because I, too, caused my furbaby's death, and I can tell you NOTHING has been more painful or more heart rending. It's been almost a year now, and although time has dulled the pain, I don't think we EVER get through it, we just learn to live with it. My heart goes out to you, to think someone else has to go through this is painful. My only advise is to share your pain with others and to keep busy to keep your mind occupied. I'll pray for you to find peace, your Garfield is safe and waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. The only thing I hold on to when I'm remembering and crying in the night, is that we would NEVER purposely hurt our babies, it was a horrible, horrible accident. Our babies have already forgiven us, they would NEVER want us to feel so sad. WE MUST find a way to forgive ourselves. RIP beautiful Garfield.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this and for the loss of your beloved pet. Unfortunatly accidents do happen even when we are careful, I had a coworker that had the same thing happen with their cat. I hope that over time the guilt will ease and you will be able to focus on the loving and cherished memories that you have of your fur-baby.

I'm so sorry for your loss and for the awful guilt you're feeling. I too carry a lot of guilt for my baby's death, so I know how you feel. I hope in time you'll come to accept it was a terrible accident and find some comfort in the thought you loved Garfield and would have never harmed him on purpose. Hugs, take care!

I'm so sorry to hear about your dear sweet Garfield. I haven't lost a cat the way you lost Garfield, but I have lost my fair share of my beloved pets over the years.  I lost my "Spanky" in 2009 - a Jack Russell Terrier that I had rescued, in 1993-1994, when my daughter was about to start high school. Her quality of life had deteriorated so much that the only kind thing to do was end her suffering. She was up in years and had lost her eyesight, her hearing and sometimes her potty control. Then in 2011, I lost my "Scooter" to cancer. He was one of my senior kitties too.  Jump to the present time, I also have to watch when I take the clothes "out" of my dryer, as "Rambo" like to jump in and lay on the warm clothes. I have to make sure he's not inside when I shut the door as well. He won't jump in there when the clothes are wet and cold, only when the clothes are clean and dry.

It was an accident and I know how you're feeling, but in time, time will dull the pain of losing your baby, Garfield. It won't take away the pain, but it will dull it a bit. Sending you prayers and hugs.  RIP sweet Garfield.
You know your "kitty mama" loves you.

I can't even imagine how horrible I would feel if that happened to me.

I will tell you what I would do in that situation.  I would go right down to the local kill shelter and save a cat (or two) that are next up for euthanasia.

It would not change what happened, but I know Garfield would understand it was an accident.  But I know, if he could tell you, that he knows he was fortunate to be loved and cared for while he was with you, and would want to know another cat (or two) would be able to have its life saved and enjoy the loving home he was lucky enough to have.

It might not even take away your guilt.  But when you feel guilty, you can also be comforted in knowing that what came out of that situation was saving the life of another.

It is my belief that this would ease your heart for the grieving process much more than just being in an empty, cat-free home.
