Hi all
Sorry it has taken so long to get back on line, it has been a rather hectic weekend.
I took Tarka to see the specialist on Friday. They decided to do another Myelogram to see what was causing the problem. So I left her there, they phoned me afterwards to say that there was no problem that they could see so they think that it was probably an injury and that they are putting her on cortisone for a week and I must keep her confined. They said that I could collect her at 4pm. I think great! At least the surgery and everything is fine and it is not another disk that has collapsed.
At 3.45 they call me to say "A bit of bad news - there has been a complication." Now, my munchie boy died in April under aneasthetic and they phoned me then and told me just about the same thing - "A bit of bad news..." (Different vet). It turns out that a "common complication" from the myleogram is paralysis and Tarka bug is now paralysed in her hind quarters. I was in a bit of a state. I went to visit her on Friday night and it was absolutely obscene - she couldn't walk, couldn't move or anything. And they gave her a normal sized (high) litter box that she couldn't even get into!
So, I discussed that with them and they gave her something a little more suitable and I left for home feeling very depressed and sad.
Anyway - to cut a long story short, she is back at home now after spending the weekend at the vet. She is still very wobbly (a little more than she was on Friday) but she is improving so hopefully everything will work out for the best.
I have to take her back to the specialist tomorrow morning for a check up. I have to ask him all sorts of stuff like easy access to the house, etc. (She jumps in and out of the window and that can't be good). We might have to move because we have a double story place and she struggles with the stairs (well, we were planning on moving soon anyway - just another reason!).
Anyway - that is my news. Sort of good - could be better, hopefully will be. Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes.
Angela.
