Hi, I have taken on a cat (left by old neighbours)
She is pregnant, but I have NO idea when she is due, she is quite large, sleeps ALOT, and for the last 3 night, she has been looking into all the little dark places
She is eating well, but has started hissing at my male kitten (14 weeks old), he is due to be sprayed in next few weeks

How far along do people think she is?
when should I be expecting kittens?

I know no one can say for sure, but a rough idea please

Hi,

I have my first pregnant cat in 17 years- and with her, I had no idea that she ws pregnant until she was about to deliver!! (like me with my own first pregnancy!! Discovered I was pregnant at 5 months, then had him at 35 weeks....... and I'm a Nurse ;-) ).

Rosie, however, is a one year old Burmese, and I have intentionally let her have a litter with my male Tonkinese. She is now showing- and expanding by the day.

She has started to 'nest' in her own cardboard box, which I have an old windcheater in. I can't feel the kittens moving yet (I don't think) but according to my memory (when Rex was trying to work out what to do!!) she is about 6 weeks pregnant- so probably about 2 weeks to go.

My vet said to move her onto kitten food about now, as it has a lot more protein in it, which helps (she is very small).

So, there is my rather unhelpful input- but it's noce to know there is someone else out there in the same position!!

Cwozza, I guess it is near, as they look after nest often first in the very last days.

Can you feel the kittens move?

Anyway, even owners of the cats cant know the exact hour, especially  if they dont know when they mated...

Some useful links which I took from my collegues:

 One from this site:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/pregnancy-and-delivery-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice/my-cat-having-kittens    ( This is a link to a group of articles on cat pregnancy, birth and kittens.   Read the ones on normal cat birth and on " when to wait and when to worry"  )

http://www.cat-world.com.au/parturition-birth-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice-centre/cat-care/normal-cat-birth

Continue to report and ask!

Good luck!

Do remember that she can get pregnant again very soon after delivery, so keep her in the house until she is spayed.  Hopefully your kitten is being neutered not sprayed!

;Lol, yes sorry he is
Thank you for all the reply 's,

Well she is still holding on to them, she is sleeping lots, and still looking for nest, I have made a box up for her so hoping she finds that, i have placed her food near there and its in my old shoe cupboard (now emptied apart from her box and food)
I can see and feel babies move, her belly seem quite low today, so hoping this is a sign its soon

,but has started hissing at my male kitten (14 weeks old),
ah yes, do separate them please.  The hissings surely sounds more than they are, but high pregs moms needs to be non stressed.  As she seems to feels stressed (or at any case, feels the need to teach him manners), best is to separate them.  And she being "in her own chambers".

Sometimes cats are best friends. In these cases there is no real need to separate them, even if it is an adult male. but it is not so here, she does hisses.

Good luck!

my girl had her kittens about 20 hours ago now. she had spent lots of time sleeping for the last few weeks. The only real sign anything was happening was that she got in her box for longer than a few minutes. I heard a screech a couple of hours later, and 1st kitten arrived 2 minutes later. I was glad I was around because she fell asleep after no.4 and I had to deal with 5 and 6 - break the sacs with a finger and dry them off with kitchen towel and move them to mummy. after 2 hours she woke up again and finished eating the placentas and cleaning the kittens. it was all over in 4
hours. Good luck!

Im trying to get it warm, but how do i get it to suck, or will it just do that when its warmer?   or what can I try to feed it with??

The kitten does need to be warmed up before it could even digest the food , even if it's able to nurse.

Warm the kitten up and then try rubbing a little syrup or sugar water on its gums,  to give it a little energy,  that might help it to be able to nurse either from mom ( preferably -- it needs her colostrum) or from a bottle.

Sometimes with weak kittens they need to be tube fed at first.  For that , it's best if a vet or someone experienced at it shows you how to do it .

here is a link about warming the kitten up  http://www.kitten-rescue.com/cold_kitten.html

Hi I'm not an expert but just read your post and wanted to help out if the kitten is cold first thing you need to do is warm it up it will not suck if it's cold a hot water bottle, heat pad or something similar. If kitten is still not latching on and sucking you need to get some kmr (kitten milk replacer) and hand feed with a bottle or syringe witch ever works. You can get the kmr and bottles from any good pet store or vet hope this helps :) wishing you the best
