Lately, it seems Bill's been getting somewhat bony around his shoulders, spine and hips. He has very long hair, so it's difficult to tell exactly what he looks like under there, but when we adopted him back in March, he had a lion cut and was somewhat bony then too. It almost seems like he is losing muscle mass or something. However, when I feel his belly, it is fat and saggy (not just skin). When I pick him up, he still feels like a moose. He is estimated at 5 years of age and had a vet check/vaccines/deworming within a month after we got him (March 2013). Do you think it could be worms? I haven't noticed anything in his feces. He seems fine and is as lazy as ever ;-)

Hmm... it's been 6 months since his last check-up. Perhaps it might be time for another? My oldest male cat just recently started losing muscle mass, but he's 13.5. In my experience owning cats, they should not be losing muscle mass at such a young age as 5 if they are healthy. Does his stomach seem to be barreling out? What is Bill eating?

I figured he was way too young for muscle loss, too. He has cerebellar hypoplasia, but I don't think I have ever heard of muscle mass loss being an issue with that. His stomach doesn't seem to be barreling out, per se, but it does seem a little distended. However, his hair is so long, it could just be an optical illusion. His belly feels full, but not bloated if that makes sense. As of recently (past three weeks), he has been on an all canned diet-Authority pate. Previous to that, we were feeding TOTW kibble.
