I haven't been on here for awhile, but some of you may remember that my daughter was expecting a baby girl (has a son turning 4 next month) Well Beatrice Lynn made her debut to the world on Oct. 19 weighing in at 6lbs 10oz. My poor girl was in labor for 46 hrs  when the labor stopped progressing and she had to have a c-section. I was at the hospital with her for the last 24 hrs and she tried so hard and did everything they asked of her with not one complaint from her. Beatrice is so beautiful, she looks so much like my daughter. My DIL has this week off so I'm going up next week to help her. Take my grand son to pre-school and make sure that she doesn't do anything except enjoy her baby.

What a pretty name! You don't often hear Beatrice anymore...it's pretty. Congratulations! I hope Mom and new baby will continue to do beautifully!

I don't understand the reason for letting a woman suffer so much and then end up doing a c section. If it was a male giving birth! Well then.

Because a c-section is major surgery with a longer recovery time; a longer recovery while you have the demands of caring for a newborn.  And not without risks.  I know quite a few women who have labored close to that; one who went over.  Doctors are different in when they will recommend interventions.  It depends on how the baby is handling the labor too.

My daughter could have opted for a c-section from the get-go, since she already had one. She just wanted sooo badly to deliver naturally. She's my little earth-mother and was so disappointed to have surgery...but it's all about the health of both and Beatrice was born healthy and beautiful and my daughter was awake during the procedure.

Yep thats what matters in the end!  I'm sorry things didn't go as she hoped though.  A friend of mine is hoping for a "vbac" in a couple months.  It sounds like she must have a supportive doctor; which is such a wonderful thing!  I hope she is recovering well!

From someone who has had a c-section and didn't even have a choice, I would not recommend it to anyone. If I was able to, I'd have labored for a long time too if it meant I could have delivered naturally. I had pre-eclampsia and placental abruption, so doctor's said automatic c-section.

Anyways, congratulations and I hope everything is well.

Does nobody have epidurals anymore?

What's a vbac?
Shorthand for "vaginal birth after cesarean."

I've had 2 and still did not experience anywhere near the "pain free" labor I've heard some people talk about.  But it is becoming more common for women to seek a completely natural childbirth.  It seems to vary depending on where you live in the world.  Women have different reasons for choosing to skip the pain medications; its become a very personal decision.

Are mum and baby home?
Oh yes. Beatrice was born at 2:18 am on a Sat. and they went home the following Monday afternoon. I plan on going there next week to take my Grandson to pre-school as her partner has to go back. She still needs help and shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than baby Beatrice.
