OK, someone posted the question about telling your cats apart by their meows. Now, after reading a litterbox thread, a silly question popped into my head...

I can tell my cats apart by the sounds they make using the litterbox, too.

Felixia is slow and careful: scratch...scratch...scratch... then she bursts out of the box & runs.
Mr. Underfoot & Sylvestra are enthusiastic: toss! toss! toss! then they burst out of the box & run.
Oreo just wants to get it over with & hardly bothers to bury it. Toss! Run!

Am I just
nuts or can any of you tell your cats' individual litterbox styles?

You're not nuts there.

I can tell the difference between my two cats when they use the litterbox.

Sphinx scratches fast, delibrately, and hard - then goes for the 100 yard dash.

Kuce is slower, softer and strolls away - and meows to let me know she is done. LOL

Bunnie is extremely organized and follows a rigorous schedule when she uses the box. She is SO LOUD when she buries. She must scrape all the way to the bottom of the box! This goes on for several minutes and then she slowly exits. Jake is the opposite, he barely covers it up and he's off like a shot!

Kayla is very enthusiastic about covering up, loud vigorous scratching to cover up after.

Ginza is quiet, fast and efficient.....let's not spend a minute I don't have to here....dash dash away!

Mozart takes the longest, and spends 5 mins circling around and around, sounds of a little digging here, a little digging there, a little more digging, finally business, then quiet deliberate digging to cover everything up.

We can always tell when it's Ophelia...she not only has to dig in the box to cover it up, she scrapes outside of the box as well. Just to be safe. But on linoleum floors, it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard! *shudder*

Trent isn't so enthusiastic about covering or digging. He's more of an in-out-get-on-with-it kinda kitty.

I can tell the difference too. Zoey's scratches are more like "scratch, scratch, scratch, scratch" with one paw.

Saki's is all like "scratchscratchscratchscratch" with two paws
Shorter scratch times too, since he's little

I can also tell the difference in their poops and pees because Zoey ALWAYS pees in the SAME spot in the litter box and ALWAYS poops in the same spot (other side of the box) Weird huh

I can always tell. Sam is very methodical, and goes back a couple of times to make sure everything is neat and tidy. He also meows to let me know if the box is not clean enough to suit him.

Bailey is much more vigorous, she scrapes up a bit pile of litter in the middle of the box, and then she takes a long time to wipe her paws on the edge of the box. So I hear that *scrape scrape scrape* when she's done.

And the kitty I was catsitting would fling litter everywhere, I was sure she was showering in it.

that is so funny to read these posts, because they sound so familar, i can tell which one is in the box, blackie is so slow and careful, covers for a long time and stripey just goes and jumps out, blackie usally covers it for him hehehe, i also can tell what they are going to do, if they scratch with one paw its a pee and if they scratch with 2 paws kinda fast its a poop, omg listen to me i sound like a goof
oh well i guess its just the love of the animal

There's no place like home
Scarlett is my little digger.....doesn't matter if it's hers of anyone elses....she'll dig to the bottom of the box everytime. She also is the locator of hair balls and the occasional spraying by the males. Anything not in it's proper place is good for a bit of scratching by that girl (and people spend money on blacklights to find urine spots.....ha!) I have no clue on how to differentiate the others in my household.

YOu've got me on this one! As a matter of fact I've never even seen Carmella or Henrietta in the little box. I know they use it because it's so damn full every day! I guess they are just discreet little ladies.

Like mzjazz2u and jenluckenbach, I can't tell either. Maybe I feel it's their private business so I don't pay much attention to it.

Toes will scratch like he's digging to China before hand and then nothing afterwards. Tailer scratches daintly and covers up Toes' and her own. Only once did I expect to see Toes and I went in there and found Tailer, but she had a real mess to clean up which is why she was making so much noise.

For the most part, yes. Osiris is easy, he will suddenly realize he has to use the box and MEW! real loud, he will also MEW! when he is done doing what he had to do!

Jules acts like he is digging for the Lost Mines of King Solomon. Sasha tosses litter out like it's confetti. Max has to try out a few boxes before deciding which one to use.

Its good to pay attention to it though! That way if they ever have UTI's or other problems with their urine or feces you will be able to know when they have a problem

Unfortunately, with all my Kitties, I have no clue to who is using the litter box.
It is something I have always worried about. Being able to tell when one of the Kitties might be developing a problem.

Well.. I think with most really bad problems involving their poops and pees, comes change in behaviour, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy those kinds of thing so you would probly know if one of your kitties wasnt acting right!
