I'm not sure how I've never registered here (or on any other cat site for that matter!) before, but here I am. At 24, I've just moved to my parents' house in North Carolina from New Jersey to switch career directions to what I've wanted to do since I was in kindergarten - help animals. I started volunteering early this year after the death of my beautiful semi-feral from Feline Leukemia and it's really what keeps me going. Everyone who knows me says I have a gift with cats, and I want to use that to help as many as possible. Skye's illness really motivated me to reconsider a career in veterinary medicine. But that's more than enough about me, so onto the goods
Barnaby is my grumpy old man. I adopted him from the municipal pound when he was already about 7 or 8 years old, for my 16th birthday. It broke my heart how long he had been there because of his age and I just had to have him! He's skinny with a TON of extra skin now (his nickname is Big Fat, with good reason!), he's got some kidney issues, plus he's deaf in one ear due to it being sewn shut (inner portion was chronically infected and had a benign tumor, so they removed it), but I love him to death. He's such a lap cat. He grooms me, sleeps on me, and rides around on my left shoulder all day. I dread him finally leaving me.
Barnaby and Belle, our Border collie, are best buds. He grooms her when she feels anxious (she's very needy and gets separation anxiety when my dad leaves for even an hour).
RiRi is my new baby. She's just over a year old. I adopted her in late spring from the shelter in NJ I volunteered at. She came into our Petco adoption kiosk and immediately melted my heart. My parents made her so fat though!
Davie is the new girl. My boyfriend moved here when I did, and he adopted her last year in August when she was 4 years old. She's very wild-looking, with her spotty torbie markings and ear tufts and bobtail, but she is a total wimp. She likes anything soft and fuzzy, high places, and rubbing against computers.
Nice to meet you all!
