About a month ago, I posted about my three kittens born and abandoned by their mom in my backyard back in May. I got the two boys inside pretty easily, but you may remember that I was having trouble with their sister. I had to trap her to get her spayed, etc. Then my husband let her back outside when she was healed. When Her brothers were inside, she was panicked, walking around me meowing, but wouldn't let me get her, even in the pouring rain! At that point, I came here for help and finally got her inside with her brothers. So now all three have been fixed and had their shots and they are living in my spare bedroom. They have an awesome window with a view, and though the room is kinda small, they seemed fine until.....fleas! They have all had their second go round of Advantage, but it became clear that I needed to treat the carpet in the room they are in. I bought Fleabusters powder on the recommendation from someone here. To treat the room, I had to get them all out of there and put them in my husband's study. Again, the boys went pretty easily, but oh, we had problems with the little girl. By now she knows all my tricks, turkey, chicken baby food, treats of all kinds. Not only could I not pick her up, she got nasty with me. Hissing and snarling and running away from me. I wasn't chasing her and the cat carrier was out of sight but she was still totally stressed. She tried to climb the blinds on the window three times! Finally I think we scared her out of the room into another bedroom where she went directly under the bed and I haven't seen her since. I heard her knock a bunch of books on the floor trying to get in the window and that probably scared the crap out of her all over again. Now she has found a good hiding place in this bedroom because I can't find her. Her food and litter box have gone untouched all day today. It's been about 24 hours since all the drama in the house. I am afraid she might have hurt herself with all that climbing the blinds business. Not too sure what to do next! Help. How long can she hide before I need to worry about her?

Leave her alone. Get their safe room free of fleas, get the boys settled down and take a deep breath. Let things calm down a bit, then start all over with her. I know, but she seems like she's going to remain fairly wild. If it makes you feel better, we have a cat with her own room. She hates the other cats and wouldn't let us touch her for years. Recently, she has begun wanting pets and now absolutely loves being brushed.

I totally agree with Ondine.  Just take a breath and leave her alone.  Make sure she has access to food, water and a litter box.  I do believe in time she will come out for all 3.  She is freaked and may freak again when you move her back to her safe room.  She also hasn't been in your house too terribly long.  She also may always be a bit on the wild side.  Do you ever see her interacting with her brothers?  Once things calm down, you can use the boys to your advantage.  Allow her to watch you play with the boys, pet the boys, brush the boys.  I have won over quite a few that way.  She may always be skittish and frightened, but I hope that you don't give up on her and set her back outside.  She will calm to a certain level.  Are you using feliway plug ins or spray?  You might want to try some composure liquid and/or some flower essences.  Feral Cat Rehab from Spirit Essences has been wonderful on all 4 of my feral/strays.  The composure liquid really helps to calm a cat and fairly quickly.  I used the Composure feline treats on Marvin when he first came into the house.  He would cry and cry at night and throw himself at the window.  I would give him 3 treats and he would calm down for most of the night.  The treats do take up to an hour to work.  I find the liquid works in as quick as 15 minutes and last longer too.  Yet, it is more expensive.

Thanks for the replies and the moral support! I was feeling pretty defeated, but I think she is just really really scared. The boys are pretty well adjusted and she loves them. In fact , I think she is sad without them and more scared. She does what they do, but they jump in and do everything first so she doesn't get a chance to try. I found her last night in my big walk in closet. It is the size of a small room and it has a nice window in it for her to sit if she feels like it. I put a nice thick blanket in there for her and food and water and her litter box it will take a while for her to trust me again, but I sense that she is very sweet, not mean. I am thinking some one on one time will help when she is ready. At least I found her and she ate a good meal last night. Now it's back to step one with her again. :-)
