Yes, it has a radio. When I just turned it on to check it, it said to plug in headphones to get a signal. I did that and turned it to a local radio station. I got the station, but I am at work and we do have WI-FI at work, so I don't know if you need WI-FI or not. I'm not much of a radio person.....sorry.

I'd use my iPod at a gym.

Dh likes the radio more than I do.  The one I broke had a radio.

I was thinking nano.  Target had a deal on them.  But now as I look into Black Friday deals- it looks like Amazon and the Apple store might have a deal on them too.

I'd use mine more for iTunes.  I have a 2nd ?  generation Nano that the kids no longer use.  It works-but there's not a whole lot of battery life.  I get maybe an hour of music before the battery is drained.  Fine for the gym,but if I use it in the car when I'm driving to pick up dd at college I run out of battery

Once the battery can't really be charged anymore, you can send it back to Apple and they'll install another battery. It's not free and I'm sure it's expensive, knowing Apple. You might be better off just to buy a new one at that point, but I don't know. You could probably call them and find out.

The Nano that I "washed" was a 5th generation. I really liked it. I'm getting used to this one, BUT it doesn't connect to the Ipod dock on my tv; I need another connector to put into the dock. (I really liked docking to the TV because it could be fully charged in much less time than connecting it to the computer.) And I'm really having trouble trying to get it to connect to my car, even when using the USB connection. It should connect that way, but it won't. I'm getting used it it, though.

My battery hasn't lasted for my full walk for three days in a row, so I think my decision will have to be made sooner rather than later.

I tried my old iPod yesterday....after trying to charge it all night Sunday night. Nothing, just the logo. I'm going to let it live in the rice for awhile back in one of my desk drawers, just because I'm curious. But I think it really is duck doodoo at this point.

Winchester- does your Nano have a radio?  And if it does, is it the iTunes radio that you can only use with wifi?

I ask that question b/c that's what dd (who loves all things tech) told me.  She's got an iPod touch.

I worked an exit poll on election day and got Christmas money :blobgreen  Dh would probably kill me if I got 2 nanos (one for him and one for me) for Christmas.  But we could both use them at the gym.

sneakymom sneakymom I can report back that it has a regular radio and that you do not need wifi for it to work. How do I know? On Monday my MP3 player died after one mile of walking, so I went out and bought an Ipod. I'm still loading music on and getting used to it. I DESPISE the earbuds. The sound from them is great, but they keep falling out of my ears.

Thanks Abby's Mom.

Though now I don't know what we're going to do.  The kids want new phones for Christmas.  Youngest wants (of course) an iPhone.  After looking at what our plan would be (we'd have to change it b/c dh has unlimited data and we'd have to go a shared plan) and the cost of 2 new phones- it wouldn't be that bad.  Of course- they don't get the newest one.  It would be the iPhone 4.

But if we did that- dh and I would take the kids' iPod touches.  They're only 2 years old, and work fine.  Those things were almost $200/piece and there is NO WAY we're just ditching them.

Good for you, Karen!

I'm not using the regular iPod buds as I don't like them either. Remember I said that I had a pair of Skull Candy ear buds? Well, they made it through both the washer and dryer with no adverse effects and I'm still using them. I put the Ipod buds away....figured I could use them if something happened to my Skull Candy ones.

I also like Skull Candy because they're on a longer cord. I need that because I put the buds in my ears, then drape the cord next to my t-shirt, then I put my sweatshirt on, so the cord is between my t-shirt and my sweatshirt. Then I can just tuck the iPod in my jeans pocket. The cord isn't hanging outside of my clothing, so I don't get my arms and hands caught in it when I'm swinging my arms. So I needed that longer cord because of threading it between my clothing. I really do like Skull Candy buds.

Check out Best Buy sometime when you're around town. That's where I got mine.

Hmmm, l'm glad you posted that. l love, LOVE the ipod earbuds, the sound is great and they stay in my ear(s) under my cleanroom suit no problem.

The only thing l don't like about them is the length - l can't put the ipod in my back pocket and sit, or bend down, as the cord is too short and the ipod comes out of my pocket. So l have to put the ipod in my bra, which l don't like to do. l may try those skull candy ones, thanks for the review

Andrya, I used my earbuds that came with my first iPod for quite a while before they died. And I didn't mind them, although I had trouble with them falling out of my ears sometimes, too. So when they died, I went down to our Best Buy and started looking around. I had read some good reviews about Skull Candy, so that's what I got. They have a good variety of ear buds down there, though, from fairly cheap to very expensive. I think mine were around $20 or so (which I didn't think was too bad overall). They're comfortable in my ears, they've got good sound quality, and I really do like that longer cord. I've had them for about a year and a half now. They survived the washer and dryer, too, and they're still working, so that's good.

Oh no! Looks like it's going to spend some time in the rice bowl!

I feel your pain! Honest!
