I am not amused. I tried putting it in a container of rice, but there was a crack on the front of the case, so that didn't work.

I was doing 50 things at one time yesterday morning....cooking down apples, trying to do some laundry, stripping the bed down. I had a pair of sweats on and figured might as well take them off and throw them in with the load of sweatshirts I was doing. Forgot that I had gotten on the elliptical first thing yesterday morning and didn't take my iPod out after I finished. My earbuds made it through the wash and dry (I tried them out and they work).....the iPod didn't make it through the wash. I was sick about it. I don't do anything without my iPod. It's just a little Nano 8GB with the click-wheel, nothing exotic, but it did the job well. I've had it now for quite a while.

Off to the store today over my lunch break. New iPod coming up. I'm probably going to get another Nano.

That's a shame. I bet thousands of them get run through the washer every month - it's so easy to do that.

Winchester I know you said you had put it in rice but you need to put it in an airing cupboard as well and leave it there for several days at least. My daughter got her iPhone wet and did that and it worked after a week.

Mamabirdy, you mean, take it out of the rice and just lay it in the cupboard? And let it go for a week?

Thank you...will do that when I get home. Right now, it's in a closed container of rice on a shelf on our hutch. I'll take the lid off the container and set it all in a cupboard. My niece did this, too, when she dropped her iPhone in the dogs' water dish. She said it took her about 48 hours, but it worked.

And I am Ipod-less no longer. This one is purple and 16 GB, If the old one ever does turn back on, I can use it as a spare. But I can't elliptical without music. Rick came back to the bedroom this morning around 5:00 and asked me if I was getting out of bed to exercise. And I said, "Nope, I'm going to lie here and sulk over my stupidity." And I did.

I'm glad you got a replacement. I am with you. I can not walk without music. Unfortunately my old MP3 player is slowly dying and doesn't always make it through my walk anymore. :( I'm going to ahve to get a new one t some point, but I am clueless as to what to get.

Several years ago dd was being "independent" and decided to do a load of her own laundry.  Her iPod that was 4 years old at the time went through the washing machine too.  She was MAD.  Did the rice thing but it never really worked well after that.  That next Christmas we got her an iPod touch to replace it.  Needless to say she is really good about checking pockets.

I washed dh's MP3 player several months back.  I think he might be getting a new one too.  In my defense though- sometimes I'm doing a zillion things at once and I don't check pockets.  You are a grown up- you can check your pockets before throwing something in the laundry.

I just checked the old iPod....connected it to the computer and the Apple logo came on. That's as far as it's gotten though, so back into its rice container it went. I'm not giving up just yet.

Karen, I can't walk without music. I just can't. And I sure can't deal with the elliptical without music. Rick suggested that I turn the tv on, but I like to work out in time to the beat of certain songs....it can really get me moving. My new Nano (16 GB, instead of 8 GB) cost me $169, including tax and a 2-year warranty. Most of the time I don't do warranties, but just in case I do something stupid again within the next two years, I'm covered. I asked Rick if we could just consider the Nano an early Christmas present and he agreed. So that's taken care of, too. I really didn't want to spend the money, but I didn't want to go without music either. I did check my Droid to see if I could put music on it....and I can. But I will get charged for data minutes and man, that could add up over a period of time. I don't have unlimited data anymore, so I have to be somewhat careful what I do. So using the Droid was rather out of the question. (Before I got my first iPod, I used my phone all the time for music. It was really nice because I'd have ear buds in and, if the phone rang, the music stopped and I could talk and hear clearly through the buds, even walking outside. No smart phone back then, just a regular phone....I think it was called the Prom Queen at the Verizon site. I'm serious.
)

Overall, I like the Nano, but I prefer my old one (5th Gen) over the new one (7th Gen). Why? Because I liked the click-wheel. If I wanted to hear a song again, I could just stick my finger in my pocket and click....I knew exactly where to click. Similarly, if I wanted to skip a song, I could just reach in and click to the next song. The new one is almost impossible to click one-handed....at least right now it is. I'm not crazy about the way it works. But I'll deal with it and I'm sure I'll get used to it. I don't know how joggers would be able to click it....I need both hands to do so. But I do like the sound of the music; I did on the old one, too. I think Apple has a good sound quality. (I think I mentioned above that I'm still using the Skull Candy ear buds; they survived their trip through the washer and dryer. The Nano came with ear buds; I put them away in case I need them in the future.)

Cheryl, that's pretty much what happened to me. Trying to do a million things at one time and didn't think. It's frustrating. I have to say that I'm not good about checking DH's pockets all the time and it's come back to bite me. I washed his paycheck one time; he was not happy as he had to go into the office to request another check. But really, in my defense, shouldn't he be checking his own pockets? And since the paycheck episode, if he doesn't put his own clothing in the laundry hamper, I don't wash them. I've had everything cleaned, except for his clothes, but I won't do them until they are in the hamper. That way I'm in the clear. (And obviously, I'm starting to have enough trouble taking care of my own stuff!)

Meanwhile, the Apple logo appeared on the old Ipod. I guess that's a good thing. Stay tuned!

Well, it's a little closer to working ...

Yes, definitely 2-hand the new nano. l one-hand mine, and through my clothes!! l wear it in my bra at work under my cleanroom bunny-suit, so l'm not able to take it out to see what l'm doing. l accidentally paused it and couldn't restart it - got frustrated and started pressing and swiping, and deleted an app!! (This all must look hilarious/pervy to the people who don't know l have the ipod in there
)  Whatever was at the bottom-right of the first page is now gone, so yeah, we don't want to read about the 4th thing being your new ipod doesn't have a music app.

For some reason I pictured my cousin while reading your story.  Totally something I could see her doing.  And not even caring if people were looking.

Mostly I use my little old ipod either hooked up to my under-cabinet radio in the kitchen (which has amazing sound actually) or in the car.  But if I'm alone doing some house cleaning or the kids are napping; I'll clip it to my apron.  It's much more fun to scrub a toilet that way!
I've got one of the older shuffles.  I wish I could pull up certain songs on it.  I don't even have it connected to a computer now because that was oh....3 computers ago i think!  DH's is on this one and I think I have to do something specific to get it all on here without deleting and what not.....  I don't have time for that!  So needless to say; the music on there really needs some updating!  I do have new stuff on my kindle fire though. That can be nice!

My current one isn't an Ipod. It's a Sony MP3 player. I have a few questions about that. On my Sony I loaded on a lot of my music Cd's. Can you do that with an Ipod? I also downloaded a fair amount of songs from Amazon. Would I be able to put those on the Ipod?

NOT FUNNY, Andrya!!

Karen, I have a ton of CDs on my computer and Itunes will take them and convert them for the iPod. (You do need to download and install Itunes if you get an iPod as you'll do it all through Itunes. It's free. As soon as you plug your iPod into the computer, Itunes will start.) I have downloaded songs from Amazon, too, and again, Itunes will take them and convert them for use on the iPod. Rick gave me a gift certificate to Itunes in my Christmas stocking one year and that was really nice.

Rick and I each have our own desktop computer and they're connected wirelessly. I have Itunes set up on both computers so that we can share our music libraries. Rick will listen to just about anything (barring the old-style country music) while I'm a classic rock fan. But there are times when we enjoy listening to each other's collections. Sometimes I won't bother with the stereo....I'll just play music from an Itunes playlist on the computer when I'm working in the house.

Thanks, Pam! That is SUPER helpful! I've been having such a hard time finding info online about it and had been reluctant to buy an Ipod because of it.

You're very welcome! If you decide to go the iPod route and have any questions, I can try to help you. Overall, I really do like having one. Itunes can be a pain to work with and it takes me a while sometimes to add songs to the mix.

One of my co-workers buys a ton of stuff from Amazon. Sometimes, depending on what he buys, he gets free music. He always gives the code number to me and I get what I want. He doesn't have any kind of MP3 player and he doesn't care about the music that much.

But evidently, I was wrong about my phone charging data minutes. If I'm streaming music, yes it will cost minutes. But if I just put music on my phone from my computer and listen to the songs that way, supposedly I'm OK. I need to check on this a little more.

I have the old iPod hooked up to the computer....trying to charge it. And all I still see is the Apple logo. That's it. I don't think the ON/OFF switch is working either. I think it's turned into duck doodoo.

Thanks, Pam! :). That purchase may be coming sooner than later. It was acting very weird yesterday. We'll see. :cross:

BTW, the Nano has a pedometer. And I think it's "fairly" accurate. I walked 3 miles today over lunch and I know that it's right around 3 miles or so because I clocked the mileage of this route with my car and got just a little over 3. I used the pedometer on my iPod today, just to see, and it said that I walked 6340 steps or 3.1 miles. That seems to me to be OK...not perfect, but not too shabby. I'd feel comfortable enough walking an unfamiliar route and using the iPod to check rough distance.

Winchester- does your Nano have a radio?  And if it does, is it the iTunes radio that you can only use with wifi?

I ask that question b/c that's what dd (who loves all things tech) told me.  She's got an iPod touch.

I worked an exit poll on election day and got Christmas money
Dh would probably kill me if I got 2 nanos (one for him and one for me) for Christmas.  But we could both use them at the gym.
